Asus ZenBook UX305 Ultrabooks, Intel Core M, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD (Black and Gold) are back in stock at John Lewis today (£499.95) with 3 year warranty!

Warranty confirmed at 3 years, I have now received a guarantee Email from John Lewis.

Silver version also available at a slightly higher cost but including a Logitech wireless mouse (see post #14 below).

£499 in PC World / Curry's but they only have stock of the white version which will no doubt show any dirt and marks easier.

Customer care difference from John Lewis and extra warranty makes this the best ZenBook UX305 laptop deal out there at the moment.

Seems like a really nice laptop. A metal body, SSD, Full HD screen, fairly slim (12.3mm), B&O speakers, it's lightweight (1.2Kg and comes with a 3 year guarantee.
Is this a i5 or i7 ?

First we had 14" laptops, then we had 15" laptops, then we had 17" laptops, then we had 13" laptops, then we had 11" laptops.
There's progress. oO
How does this laptop handle Football Manager games? I presume the CPU will be a bit weak?

By comparison, I have a desktop with an i5 2500K CPU and looking at CPU benchmarks, the Intel M in this laptop is still half that of my nearly 5 year old 2nd gen i5. I know it's difficult to compare desktops to laptops and there's always a trade off but I'm wondering if I should look beyond benchmark numbers and get real users views on this and particularly those who play FM on similar spec laptops.

Cheers!

it's pretty daft to compare an i5 with core m. the latter is for mobility and battery saving. it's good for web browsing and normal usage. defo not for gaming. but this is a cracking laptop though. bought one from malaysia. worked out £350 with the exchange rate
How does this laptop cope with programming? I'm only a beginner so may only program in JavaScript, and c# using visual studios. If it runs fairly okay and can cope with the demands then I may buy this.
Reasonable, cheaper alternative to the brilliant XPS13 but anyone genuinely considering buying one of these, test out the keyboard before you buy. Key travel is VERY limited and very shallow in action. Won't be for everyone particularly people who do a reasonable amount of typing prefer a good typing action.

Similar to the CPU in the new MacBook.

We had mobile phones like bricks, then Nokia et al started shrinking them to lipstick size, and now guess what?

I don't play FM, but i checked minimum requirements for that game and they state pentium 4. Of course this CPU will run FM without any trouble as it can run GTA 5 and skyrim on low settings in HD resolution with no problem. It can also run league of legends at high settings in fullHD at 60fps.

What an idiotic comment. Why don't you be a bit more helpful and format your hard drive?

Please punch your screen before you write nonsense and embarrass yourself. This CPU has about the same performance as i5-4210u and only requires 1/3 of their power (4.5w) therefore being much better and more expensive too.

I have a tablet with this CPU it's amazing. Full blown specs and only costed £110 during black friday sales. Lucky me.

The voting system is kind of dumb. If a few people early on vote cold the herd more often than not will follow. You'll frequently see a deal voted cold that is cheaper than a recent hot deal of the same product that cost more.

In reverse you'll see hot deals for the same product that are dearer than a recent cold, cheaper deal.

My personal idea was that there should be a delay on the initial votes before others can see them so that the herd effect gets minimized.

Voted hot by the way.

Would this laptop be ideal to record vocals using a Blue Yeti microphone?
This is not an ultrabook,

Bought a 300 quid laptop that would be faster thank this.
Stan it was 6400
For work, we were considering this vs. the Dell XPS 13, but it was easier to buy the Dell with Windows Pro pre-installed than it was for this Asus, so the Dell won. I think the Asus offers slightly better value than the Dell, but it seems almost every retailer out there doesn't offer it with Win Pro, so Asus are missing out on business sales I reckon.

Would your £300 computer be anywhere near as thin at 12mm, light at 1.2kg, well made, or have day long battery life?

Not all about speed. This thing has NO fan or vents.

It copes well, I use one every day as a contract web developer building some reasonably heavy duty sites in Visual Studio etc.

I have just about managed to go a full 7.5hrs day doing normal programming and database work without plugging in.

The only other ultrabook on the market I would consider for my work is the Skylake XPS13. It's much more expensive and a slice thicker, but it has a tiny footprint, more power, and thunderbolt 3. Just keep the screen at 1080p.

But at £500 this is unmatched in my books if you want an extremely thin, light computer for work and with good battery. But you won't play games or do any video work on this thing.
Now £599
