In some of the stores there are amazing clearance deals for many versions of series 3 Apple watches (except for the current black and white aluminium editions).
38mm cellular stainless steel versions are £250 and there is even a Nike sport loop version for £150! (The price list refers to this as a 38mm but the price is the same for the 42mm as my friend bought one from Peter Jones the other day and sent the pictures I’ve attached below.)
I do not know what is left in Peter Jones and which other stores have stock but it’s definitely worth investigating. These are not available online.

Do we know which stores?!
Shame its not online
I got the Milanese GPS & Cellular version for £350 in John Lewis Bluewater xx
Oxford street is the biggest branch, followed by Peter Jones (where the watches in the pics were spotted) so they might be good places to start. I once called customer services and they helped me find a sold out (online) phone still available in a local branch so it’s well worth calling them as a starting point
Big fan of Apple but can’t understand why anyone would buy this. Perhaps it appeals to fitness fans

Im not a fitness person, and this is how it appeals to me:

I travel a lot so by having my watch face showing the time back home in an instance, is a godsend. Likewise, going through airports and knowing about gate changes immediately on my wrist as appose to my phone which is in my pocket and likelihood of missing any notification.

It appeals to my wife too who cares for our son and is not always necessarily near her phone, so keeping in-touch with important calls and notifications is a god send too.

You will only appreciate the benefits when you’ve tried one.
Bit like a peach really you don’t know if it’s ripe and tastes good until you’ve tried it!
confirm I am not a fitness fan. Sport is for watching

The Apple Watch is a good smartwatch no doubt about it, especially if you use iOS where it's basically the only option. If you're into fitness though it's pretty rubbish which is why most people use Garmins there. The only important thing the Apple Watch can do that Garmin can't is take calls, so that's a big deal to some. As to the design, it's a bit polarising, basically having no bezel to the glass may look good but means you will undoubtedly catch it on things and it seems designed to have internal weaknesses and break easily.
Are they clearing series 3 as other stores because there is an update later which this will not be compatible? Something to do with watch face's?..

No, next version (watch os 6) is compatible all the way back to series 1
Stainless Steel is a "steal" if you can get it.

It is usually far more expensive but the finish is much nicer than aluminium.
I found a Grade N series 3 in Glasgow but no idea what Grade N is and neither did the salesman in John Lewis.

None that I could see other than the Grade N marked one. Could not see any new series 3 and the salesman didn’t think there was anything else in the stock room.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Enjoy your new watch.
The clearance lines of watches and iPads are usually kept separately from the open box returns (e.g. unwanted gifts, cancelled orders, graded items, etc). The picture below was taken on Sat in Kingston and shows a cabinet with reduced to clear iPads (e.g. iPad Pro 10.5 64gb £450). There is another cabinet with miscellaneous open box returns from a variety of brands. Sometimes you will find an unopened item selling for less than an older, returned unwanted gift!

I’m really into fitness, and to the contrary find it brilliant. It tracks my calories over a multitude of different sports and activities, which can be combined for example if you compete in triathlon (I don’t ). It’s fully waterproof (standard I know) and has been extremely robust for me over the 2+ years I’ve had it, and it gets used every single day for different activities/sports. It monitors my heart rate well and I can see my recovery rate over the previous weeks and months as I get fitter / less fit It cover ‘steps’ if that’s your thing, has great gps tracking on its own, which fully uploads to my iPhone so I can see where I’ve been on mapping. I can link with others to compete at different activities or over a week, and it will set me monthly challenges if I want to take part.
Personally I would say the fitness side of the watch is it’s strong point rather than being ‘rubbish’, and throw in the smart capabilities alongside, and it’s a great device imo. Garmin’s are v good too

Sorry, I should’ve said it’s mediocre not rubbish at fitness tracking really. The calorie figure it outputs it fairly meaningless, it doesn’t seem to send HR data anywhere else like Strava and what it does send as it’s wrist HR isn’t accurate and it doesn’t have a proper multisport mode says a lot - no one is going to sit in transition and manually start each activity.

The Apple Watch is a smartwatch with other bits like fitness on the side but it’s not a serious fitness device and anyone who is serious about fitness doesn’t use one. The watch can’t even last a moderate-pace marathon or sportive with the GPS on (no chance if music playing as well) that makes it pretty pointless straight up, GPS accuracy is below proper fitness watches and it doesn’t have a design conducive to fitness - you may say it’s fine but there’s a reason why watches don’t have the glass on the leading edge and usually have the hard-wearing bezel protecting it - that goes for Swiss watches and most fitness devices, eg Garmin Fenix. Call me a cynic but on that last point, Apple knows this, that’s why they don’t change it - so they can charge you for their overpriced AppleCare that isn’t even complete insurance... I’ve owned a few of these Apple Watches now and they just aren’t quite good enough, but when they hit this kind of price, they become a much better proposition.
The Watch is not for everyone.
However, I am very happy with mine and I think it’s more useful for us to use this forum to share bargain hunting tips with those who would like to purchase one rather than discuss its merits. After all, isn’t this what this site is all about?

Yes is is, but the all new Apple Watch face's in os6 are exclusive for series 4 only. Probably hence the clear out.

Um, it's both? Because what's the point in purchasing a bargain smartwatch if it doesn't do the things you want or need? Merits are extremely important, because at £150 it's the same price as a Garmin Vivoactive 3 which is a vastly better fitness watch or a Samsung Galaxy Watch or Active which are better for Android users. I bought an Apple Watch Series 0 when they first came out and I absolutely hated it, ridiculously slow at everything and it was borderline unusable - if someone had discussed merits rather than me being overexcited at the thought of getting one cheap I'd never have bought it.
Just saying there is a wealth of reviews and opinions out there and there are many excellent sites dedicated to reviewing and comparing technology. I have always thought of this site as more focused on helping people get an item for the best price? Apologies if it came over as flippant or pendanitc.
Looks like a good deal.

Maybe but I don’t think tech reviewers are unbiased as they don’t pay full price for this stuff whereas people here are paying with their own money so you will get more honest opinions even if anecdotal. I mean, may sites said the first gen Apple Watch wasn’t ‘quite there yet’ when the reality was it was terrible (slow and comical battery life) and no-one should’ve even bothered til Series 2 or 3.

I’d agree about the questionable loyalties in the case of Amazon reviewers, popular vbloggers and YouTubers. However, it’s cynical to paint all tech reviewers with that brush. Is this really the only place where we will get honest opinions? What about all the other forum sites or all the satisfied/disappointed everyday folk on YouTube?

Personally I completely agree about waiting until series 3 or 4 but anyone who bought the earlier edition had their reasons and not all of these people will be disappointed or bitter or looking for someone to blame for their purchase. Many might feel shortchanged but not everyone.

Anyway I hope some people will benefit from the tip off about the deals. Remember, you can always buy from Apple or a used item from a recycle store like music magpie and return the item if you don’t like it.

Over and out.

It was in Peter Jones as far as I can work out; but I went there this afternoon and they’ve not got any stock (but they do have the sign) and neither does Oxford Street and Shepherd’s Bush. Came across a few Series 1s at a nice £180 though

Word is that there might be some S3 42mm w/cell down at Bluewater for £220 or so, but is too far for me.

My friend who took the picture bought the £150 model on Saturday from Peter Jones. It’s the one second from the bottom on the right in the pictures. It was the only one of that price in the cabinet on that day but that doesn’t mean more do not exist elsewhere - although at that price they will have sold quickly.
The model is a series 3 42mm Nike cellular space grey aluminium with dark olive strap sport loop. The price list shows the price for the 38mm version but it was the same for the larger one.
All the clearance watches appear to be 42mm in PJ.

Hi there are there any clearer photos please
Sorry these are all I have and they are from Saturday in Peter Jones. Hopefully there are some watches left somewhere and updates will continue to be added on this thread
Nothing good in Trafford Centre one just to let people know.
38115621-PS6uU.jpgThere is a series 3 stainless steel 42mm silver Milanese loop in Oxford St JL for £400. Might not last the weekend but it’s in the reduced cabinet at this moment.
