Usually a bit pricey as you increase GB but considering it is not expandable, it’s a price you end up paying in the longrun. I replaced low GB iPad mini for a 128
Yeah I’m replacing a iPad mini 16gb generation 1 - can’t even update half of apps!! If it last 7 years like iPad mini 1 had can’t complain!! 😬

I agree, 32gb is not enough anymore. Works for me as I only use it to stream netflix, YouTube, nowtv etc

Where from? I’m after a cheap one
The 10.2" iPad isn't a great buy in my mind - it uses the same chip as the 2018 iPad (A10 from 2016's iPhone 7) and the small screen increase to >10.1" means that using Microsoft Office is no longer free (requireing a 365 sub).

This model is also a year old which means it could be about to be replaced by a new model.

What would you recommend at this price?

It’s certainly an interim model but that chip is still plenty fast and does a good job for the price, especially if you don’t need the extras of the pro models. Never had any slowdown issues and the Apple Pencil 1 is cheaper but still a very good drawing tool.
The JL guarantee is no different to what any retailer will give you, they just dress it up.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy from them as it’s still a decent deal, but don’t think you’re getting any special treatment

The only difference between the JL guarantee and any other retailer is an extra 12 months!

Typical Response from Someone who hasn’t read my reply properly

UK consumer law is what youd be claiming on, JL just dress it up as something THEY offer. Yes every other retailer might say you get 12 months but you would get more once you mentioned UK consumer law.

Apple just replaced a 4 year old Apple Watch for me for free, all changed once I mentioned UK consumer law

It’s not being stupid at all JL dress this up and special treatment when it’s certainly not so most would totally expect it be something special no one else offers.

I appreciate it gives a bit of comfort with purchases as well

That said I’ve also heard horror stories with JL’s warranty being pretty poor when it Comes to claiming, not sure how much weight that holds though
Upgraded from the 32gb 2018 model to the 128gb 10.2 2019 model for £299 via toby.deals

took less than a week with Hermes

last 3 laptops i got from them, no issues

How would you get more once you mentioned UK consumer law?
What within consumer law would you mention?

You don’t need to mention anything. Just say you’d like to make a claim under UK consumer law. That should start things moving in the right direction

I hate that it has to go that far as all companies no they have to allow for this, but it takes you specifically asking for it to make any difference.

The A10 is still a good chip, but it's been the minimum I've recommended to people for the 18 months (due to HEVC/HEIC support) but I suspect that it may loose iOS support next year (with 6S / A9 finally loosing support this year).

You're only covered for 6 months though unless you can prove an inherent fault that was present when you bought it under UK law surely?
Most retailers staff aren't up on the law so often the manager will just give in to get rid of you if you make a fuss but that doesn't mean you are actually on firm ground when you complain.

I have had a lot of slow down since I updated ios but how much of that is the software's fault and how much is Apple up to their tricks I don't know.

It’s not done by chip. The iPad mini 4 is still supported and that has an A8.

Yes and from what I’ve read on many occasions, the same goes for the JL warranty.

Like I said I got a nearly 5 year old Apple Watch replaced by Apple directly when I mentioned Uk consumer law. Prior to mentioning they wouldn’t do a thing

I use android over ipads but even with no expandable storage 32GB is probably OK if you can store most of your data in the cloud (or don't have much data you need on your device itself.)
Don’t think JL are any better than Curry’s. I had a problem with an iPad that bent and got nowhere. Their customer service is as bad if not worse than Curry’s.

We bought an iPad from JL. They weren’t helpful at all.
They played us off against Apple. We also quoted ‘consumer rights’, JL became even worse at this point - my husband & I were astounded @ how JL dealt with this. It was so bad that we have now questioned whether we would buy any further ‘large’ purchases from them. This was done in store. We emailed customer services about their lack of help/support. Their response was just as bad as in store.
JL used to be a trusted brand & they wonder why profits have gone down.
My great aunt bought a tv from them & received, what I would call, horrendous treatment.
Just to be clear our family rarely complains about shops & their customer support - in fact we normally praise customer service.

NB Apple were astounded at the treatment we received, to the point they replaced my iPad ‘like for like’ at no cost to us.
Nothing but drop out Wi-Fi connection issues with iPads, I’ve had 3 and they all have done the same thing, bought new routers, configured settings, reset network, reboot router, nothing seems to solve it. Shame I really love the iPads, but now looking at the high end Samsung tabs.

Interesting. We’ve got 5 in our house and only have WiFi drop out problems with one of them - an iPad Pro 9.7. I did read about a fix for it (think it was changing the channel or something) but happens so infrequently I never bothered. I did also have a Galaxy Note tablet, which I initially liked, but honestly not a patch on the iPad IMHO.
