Lol, the first item is a mattress for £999

Waiting for any news on TV's. Obviously the free 5 year guarantee is a big selling point of getting a TV from John Lewis

Found it amusing, as I've never seen a mattress that expensive, let alone one that was reduced to that price. Didn't think there'd be people out there paying that amount of money on a mattress.

Must be AMAZING...

Seriously? I thought good mattresses were £200 ish.

No wonder I ache most of the day with my springy monstrosity.

John Lewis sales = rubbish

Agreed. lot's of hype with little in the way of actual bargains. Watch for all the 'special' items that are basically stuff of lower quality bought in for promotions.

rubbish = Pineapple
This game is not as musc fun as I thought it would be.

It is a perfectly reasonable price for a good mattress, but that specific one is for sale at the same price at many other places, so not really a sale.

I can assure you that spending £1K on a mattress will be one of the best purchases you will make, though not necessarily this one, as it takes some getting used to. It's when you start considering spending £25K on a bed that one begins to worry, and yes, you can pay so much.

On another note, the Hungarian goose down duvets are way overpriced, and all out of stock as well. This doesn't seem a very good sale.

1k on a matress, i think not! Thats mad! Someone who spends that much shouldnt be lurking around a penny pinching website.

According to the vouchers they can be used in all john lewis stores, waitrose supermarkets, waitrose food and home stores and waitrose direct wines. You can also use these to purchase from john lewis direct, including online johnlewis.com and john lewis direct mail order services.

This site is just crazy, A rubbish sale not even stared and you get over 200 heat in 2hrs.

Nothing great to see yet - and a grand for a mattress? I think thats just a case of using "over-spend therapy" trying to cancel the aspects of your life that make you sleep badly!

Have you thought you may sleep better by dropping that form of therapy?

COLD anyway

Begs the question..has it gold plated springs? I would go for a good memory foam mattres around £300, as good as it gets!

You can pinch your pennies back in your own corner. Not everyone here is poor and likes living like a student. We saved around a grand on our mattress which still costed nearly a grand. A saving of several hundred pounds on a mattress or TV is a better deal than saving 50p each on a hundred tin of beans.

A mattress? a stereo? a tv?
There's a spending point, above which you're wasting your money.
Will a stereo costing £1,000 sound any better than a £500 one?
And even if it does, will your ears notice?
Is a £2,000 mattress 4 times more comfortable than a £500 one?
I think not.

Jaket, you're wasting your breath I'm afraid. Most people can see beyond vanity items such as TVs and cars.

People spend a third of their life in bed but are only prepared to spend £300 on a mattress. Compare this to the fact that for £15K you can get a large good quality family car, yet people are prepared to spend far more than this just to have the right badge, and I'll bet these people get very defensive if anyone criticises their choice of car.

With the difference in price between a BMW and Ford of similar spec, I could buy a superb bed, quality HiFi, any other quality item mentioned (and criticised on this forum), and still have enough money left for a good family holiday.

Who are the sensible ones?

Yes it will, and spending £5K will sound even better. It will also last much longer (unlike the car).

Absolute, total TOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even Mike Ashley wouldn't talk such RUBBISH!!!!
Watch my lips................."There IS a point, above which your ears will not notice the diference"
This is not merely an opinion.
It is a FACT!
Even if this £5k sytem has a volume knob that goes all the way up to ELEVEN !
Only some kind of Superman would be able to discern between the dearest HiFi and the next one to it.
And if he could, he would need to listen to it in a sound protected environment so that outside noise would not reduce his listening experience.

Is it a bird?
Is it a 'plane?
NO! It's SUPERLUGS !!!!!!! oO

I'd love to know too!

I know this thread has veared wildly from the John Lewis sale, but I spent £1500 on my mattress! It was a bargain too. I agree with whoever said about spending a third of your life in bed. It makes a great investment. On a separate note (pun intended), my amp costs well over a grand, as does each of the components in my hifi. I'd happily spend double or triple that if I could as I can clearly hear the difference, whoever can't needs to spend their 50p on some cotton buds.

I don't buy much (honest!), but I like to buy good. Also agree with the Ford vs German cars, I moved from a nice spec beamer to a nice spec Ford, and am more than happy. The only thing I've lost is my smugness.

If your definition of quality HiFi is only defined by the volume control, then yes you are wasting your time, and you may as well buy a 10 billion watts per channel ghetto blaster, because quality HiFi components would be wasted on you.

Sale is on. It aint great. Most things are "special buy" items. Hmmm...

Ah. Sarcasm is lost on you,you must be American.
As is writing as you have not yet learned how to "read".
Merely recognising the words is not sufficient.
But don't worry.
You're not the only one here who is hard of understanding.
Also, a £3,000 amp and he can tell the diference from a mere £1,000 one?
Please re arrange the following into a well known saying "Clothes, emperor's, the, new"
