This laptops only been out three months and John Lewis have reduced it by £300. Still £200 cheaper than most other places including amazon.

3 years warranty in store at John Lewis.

Ultrathin, nice keyboard and high quality finish - just seen this in store and I bought it on the spot. It's a quality Macbook Air 13 inch competitor, not some cheap baseline model.

It is Ivybridge (hence the reduction), but has a dedicated graphics card 1GB AMD Radeon HD 8570M and a full HD touchscreen.

5/5 review here:
expertreviews.co.uk/lap…u3e

There is a free Galaxy mini smartphone offer running on this too at the moment.

PC World will price match this to £670 if you phone them up, but the better John Lewis warranty seems the better deal, if you have a John Lewis store nearby of course.

if I had the cash I would upgrade my samsung r780 for this

Fantastic laptop, the free phone should net you £50 on ebay too.

At this price though, I wouldn't be able to ignore the macbook air haswell refresh.

That's a good idea, I'll do that.

Gets great reviews on PC Pro too. Voted Hot although I'd be interested to see the price of one of these with an Iris Pro Haswell chip rather than the i5 and discrete graphics. Typical Tech world of ever moving goal posts.

Well the big question for me is whether the Haswell price would be lower than the combination in this laptop. Regardless, for the here and now, this is a great deal, especially if you can sell on the free mobile.

Can it play LoL? Hmmhmhmmm

Can it play LoL? Hmmhmhmmm

I don't see how it couldn't.. Just a bit of a small screen. It's always better to have a bigger screen on LoL for map awareness

Heat added.
1080p screen, can upgrade the internals, touch screen, dedicated GPU, whats not to like!
Considering this usually retails at £999 atleast its a steal

EDIT: Also has an dedicated Ethernet port!

im still waiting for the surface pro to get a big reduction

Dont bother with last generation CPU laptops guys!! Retailers are going to be offering discounts to shift the older laptops...

HOWEVER the newer CPU's that will be arriving in laptops in the next 3 months will nearly double battery real life battery time!

Incorrect, the new cpus will save some power but how can it be 50%, the Screen etc is not going to magically half its consumption...maybe 10% I rekon

Just picked one up from John Lewis in Reading. Claim a free Samsung Galaxy Mini from here: samsung.com/uk/…ay/ and with all those features at £699 it's the perfect price point for me. Have had a massive Clevo P170EM but this is much more portable. Those saying wait for Haswell: enjoy your wait, I'll be using mine with gusto!

I think people need to resist jumping in on this because they would be FAR, FAR BETTER to wait for Haswell to fully filter into the market. The Samsung doesn't have great batter life, you're paying a premium for the looks, its not really cheap enough at this prices and I suspect it will be discounted furtther as the Haswell replacements are released.

Also worth having a look at the Haswell Acer S7, R7s, S5s etc. Similar sort of price and looks but better performance and battery life.

And probably 1/3 more of the price. Ivy Bridge laptops are fine. All retailers clear stock when a new product is released.

Double would be 100% of the current battery life my friend.

staggered it doesnt have Gigabit ethernet, I mean just how much would they save by only putting in a Fast Ethernet chip, unbelievable in a supposed 'premium' product.

This does have Gb ethernet, if you check out either of the reviews on this product, they both state 1Gb ethernet. I'd also like to add regarding Battery life, that this gets around 6 hours use between charges depending on what your doing so it's a little unfair to say it has poor battery life. Granted a Haswell chip will push this closer to 9 hours but 6 hours is far from poor.

Haswell won't give you 3 hours more battery life. Lower power displays would.

I did look on the expertreviews but couldnt see ethernet speed, JL obviously have incorrect spec disappointingly

Non sense, you should all be waiting for the ones arriving in 6 months time as it will not only double to battery but maintain same level of performance. Or, the ones being released same time next year, they will be twice battery life AND performance.

Oooooh tasty.... and it has a dedicated GPU! Voted hot!

According to the specs in both the PC Pro and Expert reviews it does have gigabit ethernet

Where did you find that price? looking for it now. Thanks

More than 4 GB of RAM, which is good, although 8 GB would be nice, given that it cannot be upgraded. And I am slightly sceptical of Samsung, but at this price you can't argue.

Au contraire - indications suggest that unit can be upgraded see posts - search for upgrade - so this kit is even hotter as it can be scaled according to needs.

That's smart. I assume you price matched at PC World hence the 10%, I've updated the original post

As this is touch screen how glossy is the screen. Was eyeing up a zenbook as it has a matt screen - who needs touch functionality

How glossy is the screen? I assume being a touch screen this will be pretty reflective?
I've been eyeing up a zenbook as it has a matt screen and who really needs touch screen? I know I don't want it.

I thought PC World was 10% of the difference - that wouldn't be another £70...?

That does not add up as it should be 10% of the price difference (£999-£699*0.1=£30 or £679).
I would be happy to hear more details on how to get it down to £629.99.

How dare you tell everyone you've bought it for 629.99 and disappear? Explain yourself mister! How the heck did you get the price so low? I was about to buy this and now I can't, coz of this magic number: 629.99 cheers

Radeon HD 8550M

,,,Slower than the integrated Intel HD 4600 in Haswell...

...not really even worth the bother Vs HD4000 on the damn CPU!!!?

Looks perfect for me, but im going to play the waiting game for another 9 - 12 month
Look at getting a Haswell ultrabook at a fair price

Voted hot as for today this is a steal
