Product Description:

Streetwise George and his big, childlike friend Lennie are drifters, searching for work in the fields and valleys of California. They have nothing except the clothes on their back, and a hope that one day they’ll find a place of their own and live the American dream. But dreams come at a price. Gentle giant Lennie doesn’t know his own strength, and when they find work at a ranch he gets into trouble with the boss’s daughter-in-law. Trouble so bad that even his protector George may not be able to save him...

Contains an introduction by David Wyatt, as well as suggestions for further reading of acclaimed criticisms and references.

Banned

Please do buy this. There are schools in America banning it because it’s “demeaning to disabled people.”

World is going mad

Ordered. It's on the list if books I've never read but really should have read.

Funnily enough, we read it as a class in (a British) school as preparation for an exam.

I think ‘the ending’ is also a reason why its being banned

I read this book for English when I was at school over 35 years ago. This book is still being used for English in some schools - my daughter had to read it a couple of years ago. It is a really good book.

It's certainly a deal, but it's a tragedy that you still have to pay for a book written 80 years ago by someone who died just under 50 years ago. I wonder where the money goes - I have no doubt someone is getting large cheques for doing zero work.

A truly great read. I'm currently teaching this to my Year 8 class and they love it (I skim over the reasoning behind Curley's Vaselined hand though heh heh)

Kindle version is added bonus in schools so that the kids can't write down the ending on page 1 and ruin it for the next year.

People probably want to change the ending to satisfy their own perverted idea of what is right and wrong. Too many cooks!

Bought the book with audible commentary. Well worth it.

Did this for English GCSE about 15 years ago. Amazing book.
