I posted this for £9.99 around Christmas and I remember people saying they wouldn’t go 4K ... I hope they bit the bullet at the lower price

Well i have also noticed there is a 4K version of JP2 in the UK itunes store which has a japanese title. Therefore, it would appear that a UK titled JP2 may be released in 4K soon. Pure speculation of course.

They’re all released on 4K Blu-ray on the 21st of May so they will definitely be updated by then.

That is why i buy 4k catalog and upscaled 4k on itunes than physical. Wish they shifted the physical uhd price to £15, blu ray £10-12 and DVD £8-10

Isnt iTunes closing down

I very much doubt it. Where did you see this?
Makes me wonder whether I should think about picking up a copy of The Matrix as that is also slated to have a UHD release next month.

ITunes is here to stay. You may have heard a rumour they will stop selling music albums, but if they do, it makes sense as people prefer to buy individual songs and music streaming is changing te way we listen to song. However, its just a rumour

Guys, sorry to sound a bit sparse... how would I watch this on my 4k tv? Can iTunes be installed on my smart hub?

Grease just converted to 4K this morning. Bargain for £5.99, the physical media is £19.99

No, where did that come from? The content providers set the prices, not itunes/Apple

Apple make way too much money to move to full on streaming just yet

Matrix trilogy is one am really waiting for a upgrade
I use plex for all my *cough* movies. I' l to legitimise everything and I'm about 1/2 way with 100 ultraviolet digital rights movies.

The bit I'm struggling on is those pesky 4k movies I want to futureproof against, jurassc p Being one of them.

Can anyone explain how the 4k uprade works on iTunes? It shows as HD in the sales page.

And also, surely they can just take it away in future? I was planning on buying a digital code from the 4K disk on ebay(code only) as then its a 4k copy digitally instead of a HD copy with 4k upgrades.

Sure. Aside from 4K TV and leads etc you need an AppleTV 4K or compatible device to watch these films. If you have that then you purchase the film (or rent) from itunes and it will be in 4K where available. Its very possible that you wont see the 4K option if you are not using compatible equipment to view the itunes store, it will only show in HD.

I very much doubt they will take 4K away, they havent removed music from my library that i bought years ago!

Be wary of codes from 4K discs, most of them are just HD like the code supplied with blu ray films (SD if with DVD). To my knowledge there are only a handful of codes that will get you genuine itunes 4K films, and they include Baywatch and War of the Planet of the Apes. Certainly any UV code will not be 4K, just HD as they dont currently offer 4K support.

I bought the Jurassic Park collection when it hit £9.99 in December in the sales, when the UHD disc was released Jurassic Park one appeared as 4K in my library, no need to do anything.

If you are looking in iTunes on a Mac or PC it will still only show as HD. iPhones show it as 4k but will only play HD. The 4K Apple TV is the only way you can play the 4k version.

The codes that come with discs are a waste of time in the UK and there isn't a consolidated service.

I just watched JP in 4K from this set, what a lovely picture. Crisp, clear and full of colour. The only downside is it now makes some of the CGI a little more obvious but thats just part of its charm. Classics like this are definately worth the pickup / double dip.
How can a movie 🎥 be 4k if it was shot in 1080p?

How can a movie 🎥 be 4k if it was shot in 1080p?

It was shot on 35mm film with 2k special effects i believe
Well, I use vudu to link my digital films, the UK codes still transfer over and the 4k versions give me a 4k stream. It' aa extremely good service actually, that' t linked with Disney anywhere, what connects my iTunes Google play and vudu accounts. So my UK uv codes have essentially transferred to my UK Google play account. But not in 4k quality unfortunately(still 4k on vudu though).

Ultimately I have a mixed bag of digital rights from various companies, but they pretty much all link together via movies anywhere(what should launch in the UK soon hopeully)

I may have to jump on the apple TV bandwagon. I see alot of 4k films very reasonably priced.

None of the Jurassic Park films were shot 1080p.

Ok thanks for clarification, just wondering then how a 2k movie can upscale to 4K without the necessary technology

Can't you just enjoy a movie without worrying about the quality? Movies are shot in a higher resolution format than you can watch at home on a TV anyway. They are filmed for a theatre and then downscaled and compressed for DVD/Blu-ray. When you're getting a 4K Movie they are simply going back to the original file and converting it for 4k not upscaling it.

No upscaling involved. The film was rescanned from the 35mm negative and a 4K DI was created for release. This DI was used for the 3D re-release, 4K blu-ray and iTunes. CGI is more than likely 2K but the majority of JP was anamatronics so it will still look decent.

I would love to know what the directors and the editing crew watch the movie in. As they must watch a final cut on the studios equipment
