Been looking for one of these for a while. Amazon just dropped their price to £151.40 (were £165). If you are quick you can get £30 cashback from JVC as well. Good deal I think.

Tried it out in a store along with Panasonic SDR-S7 and Canon FS100 (took my own SD card) and this had the best picture quality (although that panasonic is soooo tiny it really tempted me)

how do you get cashback?

Click this link on the main page for the £30 cashback, form link on next page:

"Claim up to £150 Cashback when you purchase selected JVC camcorders and Share Stations. Terms & Conditions Apply."

I was considering a Samsung MX20 and after many negative reviews decided to wait ..
this JVC is superior in almost every respect - optical image stabilisation vs. software
image stabilisation on the Samsung, and most importantly a 1/2.5" CCD vs. 1/6" CCD
on the Samsung, which would explain the Samsung's very poor low light performance.

Pricewise, this is 10 pounds more than the Samsung, but once the 30 pounds cashback
comes in, actually 20 pounds cheaper.

thanks! great lead .

Lots of posts for the MG330 - which is better, this or the MG330?

I want to use it for indoor use mainly (for the kids)and days out

when you read the T&Cs it states that the promotion ends 15th Jan, however online registration by 14th Feb - so does this mean as long as you have brought it before 15/01 then as long as you register before 14/2 you get the money back ?

Is this definitely a 1/2.5" CCD , the review on trusted reviews says it's a 1/6" CCD and I thought this was identical to the MG330 model apart from this using SD cards whereas the MG330 is HDD (and the MG330 has a 1/6" CCD). Isn't the MG330 better value seeing as it's supposedly identical performance but has a 30GB HDD built in whereas with this you need to buy a memory card.

MG330 I have seen for around £200, so £50 more. Class 6 SDHC cards are around £10 for 8Gb so not much in it really. Think I would rather have the solid state memory for reliability and I have loads of SD cards for my stills camera so a no brainer for me.

As has been posted already, they are identical cameras except for the memory and a few cosmetics. Physically the HDD model has a small bulge on the side and the MS100 has a little LED for low light shooting but it looks next to useless.

Thanks for that, have some rep. Looks like a pretty good review, looking forward to getting my hands on it (once that cashback claim is in!)

Um undecided now as Im worried that indoor use wont be that great quality if poor lighting?

How easy is it to convert to a dvd so I can play on a standalone dvd player? Anyone know if the software it comes with is any good for this or would I have to buy this aswell?

Depends what you mean by low light. I tried it in a shop which wasn't brilliantly lit and it was pretty good (better than the competition as I said). I think if you really want good low light performance then you need to spend a bit more on a cam with a bigger sensor

By the way check out You Tube for some example videos indoors (make sure to click on high quality before you make it full screen)

thanks quatermass will take a look on youtube - hadnt thought about that!

there's this one on vimeo, looks pretty good in low light if this one is anything to go by:-

I have one of these and love it. It does come with the necessary software and is very easy to copy the video footage on to your computer or to a DVD. Picture quality is excellent and I've noticed no issues with indoor footage.

Pixmania are selling this at £141 but postage is £19.99. Anyone know of any free delivery codes??

Also, Amazon deal is now up to £155.

I wish PC World still did online price matches :x.

I might have to go for one of these - those mini dv's are a pain in the butt when it comes to transferring onto DVD.

Do people know whether you could transfer the video using a mac and editing in imovie - not interested in the bundled software or youtube stuff?

From the stuff I've been reading on it, iMovie handles it just fine.

Why don't you load your mini dvs on via firewire? That's what I do :D. Works a treat.

Cheers, I have done in the past but I found that I needed about 50 gig spare on my drive and found that it used to drop sometimes

That's true actually! I did an hour long video from my brother and it almost killed my computer!

Just purchased it for the changed £155. Hopefully the cashback will reduce the blow a little.

if this is the same, seems to be, then maybe not so hot!!!!!

What's the memory usage like? - how long do you get from a 4GB or 8GB card?

Thanks

8GB:

- Fine - 2 hr 50 mins
- Normal - 3 hr 45 mins
- ECO - 9 hr 55 mins

4GB

Scroll down and have a look on that page. Gives you every size of card and shooting mode on the camera to let you know how long you can film for

Thanks!

Is this a SD camcorder ? Doesnt look like HD...

Yeah this is the SD only version of the MG330.

The MG330 is SD as well! The difference between this and the MG330 is that's a HDD built in and this takes SD cards. And I think (I could be wrong though) that this is slightly higher spec than the MG330.

Do Costco qualify for the cashback offer? I cancelled my Amazon order thinking that it did as well but it is only at participating retailers going by JVC link. I might have to replace my order with Amazon if not - can't be bothered with the running round Costco involves - this only works out about a tenner more expensive - and thats if you manage to get one for £115.

Thanks Ethan, im going to bit the bullet & get one

what is the best SD card to get for this one - anyoen who has got one can they advise??

Is there a size limit, ie 2GB/4GB and does it have to be SDHC or is SD ok?

£150 online at dixons - need to see what dixons shop price is, going ot get it from there - £160 in my costco

Got one for xmas. Very light, good alternative to my old DV cam. If you don't want to install the supplied sw then the *.MOD files in the SD_VIDEO/PRGxxx dir/s can be copied and renamed *.VOB for playback in VLC or for use in DVD creator sw. Another hint: use "ren *.mod *.vob" (lose the quotes, keep the *'s) in a Command Prompt window (in the target directory on your PC) to rename multiple files.

I am using a 8G SDHC class 4 in mine. I think SDHC with a minimum of Class 4 rating is recommended for video capturing.

Do you think if I order today I will be able to get the £30 refund from JVC. With super saver delivery the ETA for delivery may be after 15 Jan?
