JVC HD Camcorder GZ-E105 Red £54.97 @ Currys instore

Found 14th May 2014
I went to currys today to collect the Panasonic blu ray player for 40 quid and noticed that camcorder on clearance. reduced from 150 to 54.97, 150+ online so think a great deal. Box shows black camera but I believe it's red as receipt says so, I will see when I open it at home. Guy said it's national if stock found.

found in Edinburgh fort Kinnaird there were 3 left. Thanks for looking:)

EDIT: After opening the box can confirm camera is red (maroon I would say).

Can't see this model online, they have 2 JVC cameras on the currys website for £249.99 (different model) but not the GZ-105 :-(

Ex display?

Would of thought ex display. I bought a Sony camera from the Bromley store. No mention until you realise the box of open, then when you torn the camera on it has photos of people on the store on it. But they usually look brand new. If you see deals like this it's worth getting but they will be store specific i.e Bromley had Panasonic HX-DC3 camcorder for £75 & Orpington had it for £55. Bromley also had Panasonic Bluray payer BDT330 £100

Damn you auto correct 'box IS open' 'TURN the camera on'

Not ex display brand new in box. I would assume Instore only as was a clearance.

Box had security seals and everything, camcorder brand new. Had 4 sets, I took one. Also few other models sony for 90 and something else, couple cameras for 30 - 40 quid. I think simply getting rid of old stock

Update: I got back home and unboxed the item. I can confirm it's brand new- all components in closed pastil pouches, over ally looks very nice, quite compact and looks smart. Will have to check on recording quality, but for 55 quid you can't go wrong. Now I regret not taking 2 or 3:(

The JVC Everio GZ-105 is an entry-level camcorder, with a 40x zoom. JVC promises that this camcorder gives 'superior' low light performance. Does the JVC Everio live up to its claims and make ait a good choice for low-light filming? To find out, we put the Everio GZ-105 through its paces in our labs

The JVC Everio GZ-105 takes good video, and our test found that it was easy to use. However, a lack of basic features that you'd expect to find a camcorder, coupled with poor battery life really let the Everio GZ-105 down. By upping your budget slightly, you'll be spoilt for choice with better and more versatile camcorders that are worth buying instead.
What is it?

A camcorder aimed at those on a budget, the Everio GZ-105 is capable of taking decent-quality video, and has the bonus of a long 40x optical zoom. However, it's missing a key function, in that it has no photo mode. This an unusual omission.

What's great about it?

We found that its quick-start feature lives up to its billing and is really quick. This means you should be able to capture those spontaneous moments as they happen, without waiting for the camcorder to switch on and be ready to capture a scene.
What's the video quality like?

The 40x optical zoom on the GZ-E105 is generous for a camcorder, and it means that you'll be able to capture subjects that are in the distance with ease. On top of this, the actually quality of the video you can expect from this camcorder is good, especially considering that this is a relatively cheap camcorder.

Despite JVC's claims, our tests found that footage taken in low light was nothing more than acceptable, and on a par with what we'd expect from a camcorder of this type.

We can't tell you what the still photo image quality is like, as JVC haven't added this mode to the GZ-E105. That's not unusual for its cheaper models, but it does mean you'll have to carry a separate camera with you if you're after some still shots.
What's the sound quality like?

The GZ-E105 can capture sound in stereo, and the microphone can be linked to the zoom setting, focusing it's sound capture on your subject as you zoom in.

But microphone quality can be the Achilles' heel of a camcorder, and the GZ-105 is no exception. We found that sound is below par, and it's not possible to attach an external microphone to improve this, so you'll be left with tepid audio alongside your video.
Is there anything else I should look out for?

Watch out, as battery life is very poor compared to other camcorders. At just 65 minutes, it is one of the shortest battery life lengths that we've seen. You'll be limited as to just how much footage you can take before having to recharge the camcorder. This means it isn't a great choice for taking anywhere without an extra battery, or access to a plug socket.
Is there anything else I should know?

The GZ-E105 is lighter than most camcorders, so carrying it around shouldn't pose a problem.
Should I buy it?

The bottom line is that the JVC GZ-E105 is a frustrating camcorder. One the one hand, it has a decent zoom that lifts it above other, competing camcorders. It's also capable of taking decent video. However, we can't overlook the poor battery life, lacklustre sound quality, and lack of modes that are standard on other models, like still image mode. For these reasons, we advise you to shop around for a better camcorder.

Pros: Good video quality, quick start up

Cons: Short battery life, poor audio, no still photo mode

The big red dot on the box indicates the colour not the picture.

So it's not really worth getting then?

These camcorder deals are store specific and usually only in the bigger branches from my experience, they won't be online.

Go to currys with GZ-E105 on a bit of paper and ask who has any stock.
I found 5 stores bromley orpington croydon ashford one in east london.
All had 1-3 in stock.

For £50, it's a good buy. It has the usual rubbish audio & pretty terrible battery life....but the actual image quality is seemingly quite good.
One thing I really dislike about these camcorders....the use of AVCHD format. It just makes it difficult to work with the video files.

By the way, if you have no use for the 40x optical zoom, just stick with your smartphone video recorder. It'll be with you all the time, and depending on the model of your phone, can actually take far better videos.

I personally use a Nokia Lumia 1020 - you can see what it is capable of here;
youtube.com/wat…G2I

There's no way you could get the same results with the JVC (it doesn't have all of the manual controls that you get on the 1020).

I work at Currys and all stores are clearing through the camera range which are heavily reduced. A lot of stock has been sold already but the bigger stores are more likely to still have stock left. Defo some bargains to be had. Stock is being reduced weekly by grab it before it's gone!

I have this and paid 150 some time ago. takes really good videos but touch screen is hit and miss. overall I was happy for 150 I paid. I also sent off for a spare large battery which is superb and lasts ages. For this price it's a great deal.

Got last one just now

Thats POOR Marketing on the Stores part to STILL LEAVE 'Irrelavant Info.' on a Product that later is MORE Guaranteed as a 'Guaranteed Sale' Product!! .. I mean ..... :-(

Lol .. Ps. my JVC Video Camera was UNOPENED/NEW by the way!, so ..... lol. :-)

For all those (like myself!), that had 'ISSUES' trying to Buy this SEXY HD Camcorder Today/Yesterday/the Day before? .. the PROPER Model Number for this JVC HD Camcorder is: GZ-E105, & NOT simply GZ-E105 like the OP stated above already? .. I had some 'Technical Issues' Purchasing this earlier Today on account of this 'thang' .. THANKFULLY the Sales Lady I came across was kinda Clued-Up!, so she thought 'Outside The Box' with various Obvious & Not So Obvious 'Searches' till we finally got there!, then after a bit of deliberating (me NOT able to find 'Product' on Shop Floor! lol), a Sales Man eventually came to the conclusion it be 'HIDDEN', & surpruse surprise hidden away from 'Prying Eyes' (in a 'LOCKED Cabinet/Box') was my Baby Sexy Cam, in Burgandy Red! (OH HELL YEH!!! lol) .. so Today I Bought me One JVC HD Everio GZ-E105 Camcorder (OP 'UPDATE' Product Description to reflect this please?, thanx), lol. :-)

I Bought mine from the Chadwell Heath, Romford Branch of Currys/PC World .. & yes, they ARE NATIONAL!! .. THANK GOODNESS?! lol. :-)

Was so excited about that camera. Uncomfortable and zoom is shaky. Loosing focus on a high zoom. Disappointed
