Avoid! These are cheaper than competitors for a reason. The relay that turns the power on and off fails after a few months. I’ve been given a replacement via warranty and it’s been about 6 months. The new unit sometimes fails to turn on, so it’s already heading towards the same direction of my replaced unit.

Concept is good, I use this to power all my equipment when WFH so it means I’m not unnecessarily powering things when not working. The energy monitoring one tells me I use about 0.6kWh per day.

Bought three of these - All of them failed after between 12-24 months with the stuck relay issue. In one case the replacement that TP-Link/Kasa sent failed with the same issue.

FWIW - Sometimes giving the plug a firm knock frees up the relay and buys a few more months.

Is it just the mini plugs affected by the relay issue,? I have several Kasa smart plugs and none have ever failed me over several years. However only my most recently purchased one is a mini one so maybe it's just a matter of time with that one?

I've got five of these (one old style, 4 new compact), one energy monitoring, and two have failed on the relay issue. Maybe unlucky, but here's how you fix it if out of warranty or you don't want to send back.

Hi, hoping someone can help..... need a plug maybe just a timer or a smart one that works with Alexa, will be plugging it in in my conservatory to power outdoor lights, and bringing the lead wire/plug off the lights in to plug into it (if this makes sense?!) I want to be able to turn my lights on for say 6 hrs of an evening automatically so I'm not faffing or most probably knowing me forgetting to turn them off ..... any ideas please?
Grateful in advance for any help

This works with Alexa & you can set time schedules through the app so would be perfect for your needs.

Good price, if looped into Kasa eco system and easy integration with Homeassistant. Beware, there's an issue with the relays sticking on some of these, so power remains stuck on, and automation in the bin. Can be fixed temporarily with either a firm whack or longer term by soldering a new relay on to it. Or return if in warranty. That's all I would say. (edited)

Have been using these, and the kasa strips for about 3 years now. Have reptile lights and lamps connected, and then at Christmas I have my tree, garlands etc all connected with a schedule. Never had an issue with any of them. Maybe I'm lucky, but wanted to share to provide some balance

How much data would you expect it to be sending?

What's wrong with this Wi-Fi on this and with "matter" forthcoming are these viable? Also

These were all new design ones, old one been solid and that was carrying the largest load +1KW. Cheap, low quality components unfortunately, just like their Powerline products.

The upside is that it's got me using a soldering iron again to replace the caps on the powerlines, and the relays on these, but many won't want this hassle - hence the warning. (edited)

I think I only have the original Kasa devices so no experience of stuck relays (yet!)

This looks like a good deal, but so does the power monitoring version for £5 more. I paid £17 in 2020 for a first generation power monitoring one, and that seemed a great deal back then.

£9.86 is a lot for a plug that's not going to last a year.

Change that to 2 years and then I’ll agree 100%
