Of course!

I say good luck because just about every AV or IS deal posted goes cold because of those who feel that you can get perfectly good free alternatives.

I don't subscribe to that view and currently use Kaspersky IS as I found free ones unreliable at detecting viruses.

But I appreciate everyone is entitled to their opinions and right to vote accordingly.

My good luck was genuine.

me too! they give you 2010 up to when your original would expire as the 2009 version won't work with windows 7.

in fact anyone can upgrade to the 2010 version

I've been using it for the last couple of months and it seems good to me. Much better than Norton and McAfee - which used to grind my computers speed down.

Is this better than the free AVG, which I have always found to be excellent?

AVG doesn't generally do that well in group tests or independent AV tests, Kasperski generally does...Kasperski suite is particularly well regarded. For a free standalond anti-virus product the new Microsoft Essentials is getting particularly good press and reviews, out detecting some very well known paid for products...I am in two minds what to do when my Norton expires in January (and Norton has been light and easy to use!);-)

I am a fan of Kaspersky and been using them for last 3 yeas without any problem. I run Win XP and recently upgraded from 2009 to 2010 version but I must say it has slowed down the computer. If you go to Kaspersky lab's forum, you will find lot of issues with 2010 flagged up. Also AV-Comparatives rating for Kaspersky has gone down with 2010 release.

I would recommend installing 2009 version and wait upgrading to 2010 version till problems are sorted out. (unless you run Win7)
