3 user edition is £17.99 at play, so if you can use your UCAS card that may be cheaper and you can share with 2 of your friends!

Does anyone know if the 3 user-licences are all activated at the same time, or if the 12 months of updates starts when each is activated?

AVG is free, but it's not the best. I don't mind paying 15 quid/year (4 beers) for the best AV solution!

If you have 1 computer only, buy Kaspersky from play. Otherwise get the 3-user edition quick before the price goes up!

From PC Pro about AVG:

This isn't a score to be ashamed of - AVG can be proud of having outshone seven commercial products. Nevertheless, it falls well short of the top spot, with four other packages doing a better job of malware detection, including Avira AntiVir, which is also free. AVG is unarguably one of the most likeable products around, but in our tests it simply wasn't among the most effective.

and about Kaspersky:

In short, Kaspersky towers over the competition. The annual subscription … In short, Kaspersky towers over the competition. The annual subscription may rankle when Avira gives you so much protection for free, but for £2 a month you won't find a more deserving winner.

Since you're such an "expert" in AV software I think you should send your CV to PC PRO, they might hire someone like you...

ive got AVG and my desktop has been goin very slow for the past week started a scan and it didnt find anything did a spyware scan still no luck there is something which is making it slow. the one i have is the free one.

I have been using Version 6 for 5 months after using AVG for over a year (with no complaints) and I have no regrets. I bought the 3 user version and I believe it is worth every penny I spent.

That's exactly what I thought.. Whenever a anti-virus or security suite is posted on here or MSE it turns into a AVG or avast is best debate... Sooooooooooo predictable..:whistling:

what is the difference between internet security and the antivirus one?

internet security is the full package, ie firewall + anti virus etc.

anti virus is as it says on the tin, anti virus alone.

go to windows task manager/processes tab/view/select columns/if not sure tick all the boxes and look for the processes that are hogging either the cpu or ram.

Unrelated but some of the older Norton Av does not seem to work well when the pc is fully updated. When trying to browse the web, it basically freezes the system by locking the cpu at 100 percent.

ohh i see thanks, ill get the internet one then.

Free is best - been using AVG for a few years now without any issues at all.

Coupled with a good - free - firewall, (Zonealarm), and a free spyware dectector, what more do you want?

If you're the Pentagon then maybe you need to worry about all manner of things but for 99% of people, free resources are all that you are ever really going to need.

However if you have money to spare, there will always be organisations willing to relieve you of it so pay up for additional peace of mind if you must!!!

However, it really can be a free world - for some people:p

Yes, unfortunately with version 7 they have changed to giving a single activation code valid for three systems, so once installed on 1 machine the countdown begins ;-)

Version 6 was different though, a 3 user licence package came with 3 individual activation codes valid for 1 user for 1 year, so could be used as a 3 year single user subscription :whistling:

It made a decent fist of identifying the most common threats, but overlooked a variant of the SpamTool trojan, which was spotted by every other package. With its middling antivirus performance and unprofessional user interface, NOD32 fails to impress - even though it's been around for a long time. At this price, it certainly can't compete.Full review: ]http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/120453/eset-nod32.html

Kav catch more viruses because many of them written by Evgeniy Kaspersky and his lab ;-) nod have more strong heuristic analyse and its working faster than kav.zone alarm 4 out 6 LOL!!!!!

PC Pro are arguably the most respected and trusted independent magazine for reviews. It's absurd for anyone to say AVG is as good as Kaspersky when it's evidently not.

Some AVG users can't except that AVG wasn't among the most effective in the PC Pro tests and for some to make ridiculous comments such as 'free is best' is also absurd.

If anyone is serious about an Anti Virus Protection that wants the best then Kaspersky is the winner. If you must have a freebie then use Avira as it will catch more viruses than AVG.
