Kaspersky Antivirus Free

Kaspersky Antivirus Free is not available in the UK until September or October, but can be downloaded now from the US website. I have just downloaded and installed, and all was fine. I know that some can get the full version free from Barclays (I can't), and some can get other paid solutions free from elsewhere, such as ISP's(I can), but for those that use free AV, it should be solid, and is apparently advert and nag screen free, which is a big plus for me.

If you're going to be paranoid, at least be up to date; it's the FSB now

I use sophos free. Does anyone know which is better?

Never free. Especially with antivirus.

What....? I have a paid version of this lol. How is it not available? Or is it the free version you're talking about ?
The free version lacks some of the premium features, so check the specs to ensure that it does all that you want it to do.

Indeed, but it's probably enough for most.

Officially not.
Kaspersky controlled by FSB

Officially not.

Or rather "not officially".
Voting hot. Currently using Avast free version but the upgrade nag screens are annoying and Kaperski has the better reputation anyway, so will give it a go. The FSB can have all the details they want from my PC.

Kaspersky - But a paid version is best and Eset smart security is even better.
But this deserves heat as Kaspersky is a good antivirus.
I used the full (paid) version of Kaspersky for free via Barclays (only for Barclays customers), and have done so for a few years now

Same, so anybody reading this who is a Barclays customer and doesn't already take advantage of the free Kaspersky with your bank, give it a try.
From Russia with love?
The Sophos stuff is rubbish. Partly developed by ex McAfee engineers. The McAfee stuff is a bit better but nothing like Kaspersky.
Thanks!
AVG free has become more and more bloated and intrusive, can't wait to uninstall it!
Also worth checking what your isp is offering. Many with give you premium av software free for 12 months - Virgin will give you F-Secure for example. I personally use what's built in to Windows 10 but each to their own.

Nag screens, I use Avast free version and don't get the nag screens.
Interesting analysis of the 'Product' there ...

I personally like the OP's AV, but saying that though, it's worth considering still I guess?. :-)
Have not used AV for years

Just common sense needed

That's what people say just before they take the computer to have all the viruses removed.
Is the full version free for Barclays current accounts only, or for Barclaycard too?

EDIT - never mind, it's only a free 1-year trial anyway

It's not a 1 year trial for Barclays customers, you can renew year after year. It's not for Barclaycard customers though.

It's free with Barclays Current Accounts only, and it's not a one year Trial, it is fully unlocked and you can get a new 12 month license key you just have to apply for a new key.
Bitdefender is currently the best free AV based on real-world tests. Though the software itself is very barebones.
Trend Micro is the best paid-for AV.

ESET is pretty woeful, for those recommending that. Though does top performance charts.
