free at barclays..

£1 to open an account if you dont have one..

(and then theres the free altenative route...)

free alternative route? where?

i don't particularly want to open a barclays account..

Dont think anybody on this sight is gullable enough to buy security software. Cold.

Why not. It's only a pound and must be cheaper than the offer. BTW, dont forget Barclays is free forever, while if you purchase Kaspersky, you need to pay for renewal of your license every year.

I think for a small outlay this is better than the free programs. Was using AVG for last few years but
not as good as it used to be.

No but there are some on this site who are.

There aren't that many free security suites, the most notable being Microsoft security essentials.

There are plenty of options if you don't mind a pick and mix though.

have been using Kaspersky Security for years. Heard their newest version slows down the computer, anyone know if that's true?

I have 2011 version,not noticed any slowdown.

Have been very happy with Kaspersky since I got it.
This deal is a good reminder that if you can find a cheap copy of 2009 version anywhere it can be upgraded straight to 2011 and if you are running 2010/09 you can download, uninstall and upgrade to 2011 on your existing license.

So you have made up your mind then. Please give

for being so opposed to paid for security software.

Kaspersky is possibly the best internet security app.
I've tried a whole bunch and have finally settled on this.
I'm sure others will disagree though.

Not Windows 7 compatible?

I have been using it for over a year - with no problems

Nope.. Totally agree

What does "2009 RENEWAL" mean? I am using KIS w/o any slowdown issues (Both 2009 and 2011). I am little confused about the "renewal" thing. Is it that you need to have KIS 2009 already installed and all this product does is extend it for another year? What if I want a fresh install of KIS 2009?

I think if you update from 2009 to 2011, you only get 6 months worth of protection (could be wrong on this).

I have just got Computer Shopper, who have done a large-scale test on various anti-virus programmes. The only one that caught everything, and is their Best Buy, is Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2011.

cold .. virus protection should be free.. eg m/s security essentials

Not Windows 7 compatible?

It might not be. Even the 2010 edition stated it might only work with Windows 7 32 bit, I have a 64 bit Windows 7 but there was a patch available via the website during install.

I imagine this will be the case with all Kaspersky products outwith 2011, so should be fine. Just need to make sure you're connected online during intial install I guess.

And best program around by a mile, can be fussy with legit websites as it's only downside but just add the URLs into the white lists and you're fine.

Not Windows 7 compatible?

yep it is windows 7 friendly. I upgrade 30 laptops with it. You just need to download the correct application version

Kaspersky kicks ass. best one on the market by far. norton and avg are not as good. good deal but you may still be able to get a 3 user version for £5.99 at the works bookshop. i know i have.

you mean other than being just as protected for less or even free??

You can download the latest version from the website and just use the key you get with this so don't worry about compatibility.
However I think this is cold I picked up the 5 licence version of this a while ago for 7 quid at the works. It was posted on here.

thanks, just ordered as it is exactly what i need!
just to run a question by you all... ( im new to internet security so pardon me if its general knowledge!) am i able to use the 2009 licence for a year and then upgrade for free to the 2011 one or do i install the 2009 and then go for the upgrade pretty much straight away?
what is everyone else doing???

Had to vote cold. Hot for someone who wants to pay for antivirus that has equivalents available for free?

For a number of years i have rated AV suites via the following method .
Advanced + ratings only in a two year sample of AV Comparatives tests with an addition for the recent results .

Its been a fairly constant top two in that time frame of five years plus . Middle ranking and lower end subject to fluctuation .As as computer magazines top rates vary from mag to mag and even issue to issue i prefer a slightly more logical method of ranking on a long term basis .

Top two as usual number one Eset Nod 32 number two Kaspersky .
Bottom of the list mainly due to it being a new product is MSE the well touted Avast Free slightly above the very bottom and AVG regulated to fourth div .

Microsoft Security Essentials
AVG Free
Avira Free
Avast! Free

All free, and do an incredible job.

there is nothing free that comes close to this.
free is fine as long as you don't want to go on the internet.lol.

If you do downloading - I strongly recommend ESET as the firewall on that is a bit more 'smarter' than Kaspersky which will just hog CPU.

WHY ARE THE FREE ONES FREE?
cos they're a marketing tool. if they were as good as the paid for version, the company would just give it ALL away for free.

free basic limited security.

if you can find a collection of progs that will use less RAM and CPU than a single suite like Kaspersky or Eset or even Norton 2011 (PC Pro magazine A list choice), then fair do.

why should security be free?
companies make money which helps R&D and improving the product.

dont pay, you got no comeback or complaint when it lets you down.
at least with a paid for version you have vendor support

At last a sensible comment about AV software.
Eset would be my first choice.
Great price for an AV program which is highly rated and offers customer support-Which you will not receive from free versions.

And the reviews which state this are.................?

im not even going to get into the free v paid arguments so ignoring that this is still not a hot deal...

reason : you can get this exact software for free or £1... a saving of 4-500% as stated in the 2nd post.

Ever since version 10 and 11 it has slowed my old P4 XP system down badly, but on my newer dual core Win 7 PC, it's not so noticeable (though I guess the machine being more powerful it can cope better).

same price at amazon

I have been doing a report on identity fraud and it amazes me how people will just go for the free option just because they don't want to pay.

Its like getting the cheaper lock for your door because you don't want to pay the extra money. Sometimes a little investment of what - £20 or so a year? I bet most of you spend 2 x that a night on booze which you pi** down the drain anyway.
