No, No it's not. Check out multiple independant lab testing showing not only actual threat detection, but also false +ives and impact of system. Defender consistently is ranked near the bottom. Don't take my word for it, actually research for yourself.

That said, in recent years it has improved a LOT, but given it's starting point.... it needed to!

If this was a one-off price for lifetime protection then I'd snap it up but i'm not paying for it every year ..

Agree, and been a victim of relying on Windows defender with a virus. Now use eset nod32 and not had anything since.

Malwarebytes is good, but the free version is passive protection, so in effect it doesn't do anything to stop you getting viruses/malware, it helps out when you get one. It's works well as paid for active protection, supplementary to an anti virus program.

I don't need an anti virus as I only use Windows for gaming, which is fairly rare.
