But if you're the kind of person who frequently visits websites for downloading freewarez, or plugs in memory sticks they find in the street, then maybe think of getting some extra protection. (edited)
This, along with common sense, is enough for most people.
U WOT M8... Windows Defender these days is as good as any third party software, it's bang upto date and comes without baggage dragging down PC resources, combined with Malwarebytes and it's pretty much a perfect combination.
You must be thinking of 10 years ago.

Has anyone paid attention to the following:
"You are not the administrator of this license."
About the license administrator
In general terms, a Kaspersky Small Office Security license administrator is a person who owns the license and administers the security of an office from Management Console. Technically, it is a user first added a valid Kaspersky Small Office Security activation code to their Management Console account to register the license or connected an application activated under the license to their account. The license administrator can use the full functionality of Management console whereas other users of the license are not able to

A lot of people don't take Cyber Security seriously, we fall prey to free things. This might also be a type of scam, with the ongoing Cyber Attacks this can also be a sophisticated state-sponsored attacks against the Australians.
This video youtube.com/wat…t-E shows what the management console looks like. The license administrator can see all our devices in the management console as soon as we add that activation code.
So we are sharing the following details with the administrator:
1. Type of the device we are using
2. Probably track our location / take mugshots using Find my device / anti theft features and if we have given location permissions.
3. If we have linked our email account to that license, the administrator can see our Email Address.
4. The administrator can view our Call logs / Message logs if you have enabled that feature for Kaspersky to scan for phishing links in messages.
5. The administrator can run remote scans on our system and in turn know what type of applications we are using and also what versions of it.
6. The administrator can remotely wipe all the data on our device.
It is really scary to install an application and give it all the permissions without knowing who is administering it.
Please refrain from using this license and get your own for complete control or be satisfied with the free version.

Uninstalled mine after reading this. As the old saying goes, if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.

Good sumup
Edit: Basically the administrator can wipe your HDD and then send you an email to fake a ransomware attack. If you re using this key you are really making it too easy for them.
Kaspersky is a clear winner by all independent testing labs. Just one example below.

Seems legit
Windows defender has previously won awards. Match that with malwarebytes Windows firewall control (also free) and your set.
I've got 15 years experience working in information security, currently with a global defence organisation. I evaluate the effectiveness of Antimalware products for a living. Where does your experience come from?
Here for information is the Gartner magic quadrant for endpoint protection software. Magic Quadrant is a series of market research reports published by IT consulting firm Gartner that rely on proprietary qualitative data analysis methods to demonstrate market trends, such as direction, maturity and participants. In other words, it's based on proper facts and research, not the opinion of some keyboard warrior on the internet.
Note the relative positions of Microsoft and Kaspersky:
You may or may not also be aware that Kaspersky products are blacklisted amongst many global organisations due to their association with the Russian government and previous allegations that their software is not actually very secure.
If you'd like to offer some evidence to back up your trash talk, feel free to provide it. (edited)
Absolute nonsense.
Which do you think a phishing attempt or hacker will be able to circumnavigate first? The AV bundled with the operating system of course.
AV doesn't have to cost a lot but, to rely on the Microsoft version bundled with the operating system is just asking for trouble.
Hope it helps someone. (edited)
And my system crashed and had to reinstall Windows. I use to get it free with my bank account. I decided to remove it after my auto-renewal was changed. I'm sure it wasn't me as they claim. I don't know. It worked OK while I had it, not the most intuitive. They try and sign you up to other Internet protection services like vpn. Trying out mcafee now. So far I like it better.
...And it might not crash your system like it did mine. Who knows. (edited)
It's FACTUALLY not as good (do some research before wildly posting made up on the spot remarks). You might need this for sure. Has a much better interface and provides greater control. Irrelevant personal opinions in scenario's like this are unhelpful and detrimental.
McAfee! Lols.
Not true and inexperienced remark. ANY website legit or otherwise can have an ad that if accidentally clicked will open ad after ad after ad.. leading to example; ransomware. If you state that commonsense plus defender is good enough, then you are certainly not qualified to be offering this kind of advice. Defender has always been and still is, almost non existent in virus detection. Testing year in and out it commonly scores bottom in WorldWide Virus Testing. It can stop the most common and basic well known of viruses. Mostly it interferes by blocking something because it feels like it, without warning or notification. Ridiculous
Depends where you venture online. I've used Microsoft for years. No problems.
It could gas poison the national fish & chips reserves m8!
Putin even says its great, can't be bad!
If that were the case they would have replaced it with another antivirus. They used some baseless news report as an opportunity to stop it for profit reasons.
So you rely on scams/attacks being obvious. A novice mistake, they are becoming increasingly sophisticated and even someone that works in the computer industry could be caught out if they were tired and not paying 100% attention. Iv had emails that looked so real i had to google the real companys details to find out if a seemly legitimate email was legitimate or not, if you were expecting something from a company and happen to get a scam email in that time frame it wouldnt be hard to fall for it.
I dont think you are even aware of the type of threats that exist or that you can get excellent protection for nothing.
As for you not having a single issue this just annoys the hell out of me, how exactly would you know if you dont use any AV or any second opinion scanners? if windows defender doesnt detect something then the threat wont be blocked and your computer and information will be instantly exposed. Your advice is basically that if you cant hear an alarm or see an alert then everything is fine.
A classic argument from someone who's been cornered with their endless BS!!!
Not again! So many people have views these days which are not supported by reality. THIS ADVICE IS REALLY BAD ADVICE and best ignored.
Actually, it's worse than bad advice. It's dangerous advice. (edited)
They are all too busy arguing about who is cleverest & more knowledgable about computers.
No worries about the security risk of this particular Kaspersky KEY!
The legitimacy or origin of it is evidently of no concern to HUKD either!...
I note that the OZ forum have expired the deal: ozbargain.com.au/nod…530
"Mod 19/1: We have removed the key and expired the deal, as we are unable to verify the origins/legitimacy of the product key. The key/deal post will be reinstated/unexpired, should this change in the future. Whilst the deal is still available at most other deal websites overseas, we were unable to obtain any reliable information about the origins of the deal/product key. Please continue discussion below."
If she replies I'll let you all know
Think I'll stick with Bitdefender for now until a better offer appears for one of the many Security suites out there - complete with a unique key
Exactly. I'm glad it's finally sinking in.
Simply google the Key V1W2X-JGXKR-A4JV5-V5R9U and you will see that it is ubiquitous, not unique
Might be an idea to google any keys in future and be sure of a legit origin? (edited)
Which is better? Malware bytes is free to NatWest customers. (edited)
Both, ideally. They run quite happily in tandem and do different things.
