Seems to have good reviews on amazon, I'm determined to get an air con for this summer but not sure whether to hold out for deals that might pop up as it gets warmer for higher than 7000BTU. Anyone used Amcore?
I had a stand alone unit once but it made so much noise and the venting was a real pain so I sold it and used a fan instead....
I have a 8500 btu and it doesnt cool my living room but it's open plan soo I'm sure i need a considerably higher one.

Looking into a couple 18500 but there 600+

Running a test in the bedroom today to see how it fairs with a smaller room

+1 for this. We don't use our aircon at night; buy a big box fan and use cross-ventilation to create a quiet breeze instead.

Big box fan ? I have no idea what this is.
We've had a portable AC for several years so thought I'd add a few comments.....

1...it is terribly inefficient. Barely cools the place by more than a degree or two.
2...it is expensive on electricity.
3...it sure is noisy.

BUT....it makes all the difference on the very hot/humid days we sometimes get in mid-summer.

Just to add that our place is very open-plan. I guess they work a lot better in closed rooms.
We run it on the landing as upstairs acts like a heat-sink in summer. It is vented out a window in the spare bedroom using an extension hose from ebay. The hose gets hot which means that bedroom gets like a hot-house!

Something like this. Sit it on the window ledge in a spare room, blowing OUT. Open the window in your master bedroom and it'll suck cooler air from outside IN and create a cooling breeze. Far more effective than an expensive aircon.

Anyone know how long appliances direct's sales usually last?
Has anyone used the Blyss model from B&Q? 9000BTU at the same price but unsure of the make and reviews are scarce: diy.com/dep…prd
so in need of a decent portable air conditioner. Not for every day, just those really scorching one in my garden office, hoping i'll only need it for an hour or two to drop the temp a few degrees... Did some reading last year but always read comments like:

- Useless
- Venting kit is flimsy and too short
- Venting tube gets hot and defeats the point
- Expensive to run
- Very very noisy

It really put me off and made the decisions difficult and there were very few YT videos of them working.

You're assuming the air outside is cooler, which it generally is but during the recent heatwave my area was seeing temperatures above 20C well into the early hours of the morning. In conditions like that you need air conditioning not a fan.
