This actually contains cow blood, cold.

Well you don't want hot cows blood!
Cheap but weird. Tried Kelly's twice, just the normal, and it's a really weird texture. Leave it in the bowl and it appears not to melt, of course it does but it must be stuffed with so much gum and stabilisers that it just sits there. Probably explains the weird texture.
Kinda pleased I don't live near one! Just had a few spoons of the cherry bakewell one, lush!

Lovely ice cream
Anyone else getting a server error?
It normally costs 17.99 + vat so about £21.59, saving over 80%.

It has high fat content, uses thick clotted cream and is likely heavily whipped too. Usually ice cream is either full of air or full of cream (as either helps prevent it freezing into a block), rarely both which is probably why it's weird.

Looking up the stabilizers it uses, it's uses the same stuff as a lot of ice creams.

No, it's odd. Don't care how much cream and whipping it has it should melt. Kelly's was taken over by another outfit, as I remember the second largest in europe. It's too much gum, I know all ice creams have it it depends how much!

Yuck!!!

Most disgusting thing I have put in my mouth. It tasted artificial like melted.plastic with nail varnish remover. Initially I thought it was due to the ‘peach’ flavour in the ice cream so I left out the ice cream on the counter top & purchased a different kind from Kelly’s (clotted cream). Even though the flavour was not a vile as the ‘peach’ it still did not taste like real ice cream. The peach ice cream i left on the counter top for days didn’t seem to be melted but was like shaving cream. I will NEVER buy any Kelly’s ice cream again.

Further edit. The owners are essentially the largest producers of ice cream in the world!

Not always the case
I remember last year they had a few tubs of Movenpick ice cream, hope they have some of those again!

From someone who knows what nail varnish remover tastes like?
Kelly's ice cream is lush. Shame I don't live near one of these shops (although my arteries are probably the better for it!).

They do. I've spotted Hazelnut, Banana and Caramelita

I suppose that if they said it tastes like s... It would mean they eat s... all the time. Anyhoo, I wasn't quoting them for the flavour, just the weird texture and inability to show signs of melting! Obviously, some people love it, not for me though. I must say the clotted cream version tasted ok'ish but the mouth clag and texture I could not get over.
This is the sort of thing, not kellys but another company taken over by a conglomerate.

It probably means it contains sodium alginate, that's a seaweed based thickener

I would think most do, it's just the amount.

Agree compadre - this stuff has the weirdest texture and haven't been able to touch this or Carte d'Or (or any cheapo 'ice cream') since watching this a few years ago:

Linky

As you say, lots of people love it though and fair play to them
Interesting flavour. Would like to try but im down south

Ooh when did you see them please? I was there on Saturday but didn't see any

I can't find anything on their website that says it does.

I was very surprised to go on a winery tour and find moat red wine has ox blood in it - vice.com/en_…ine

So I suppose its not impossible.

Hazelnut nut Sat 16th May
Caramelita Sat 23rd May
Banana Sat 30th May

I do my food shop early on a Saturday morning so that could be the contributing factor as I went in today and there was no Movenpick to be seen, just an empty freezer with Movenpick labels.
99 problems with this ice cream, and the flake ain't one
Nice flavours to try
My local Iceland Warehouse had the Tutti Frutti flavour for £5

"The use of blood in wine fining is an old practice, one that has dwindled over the years as other means have become available. It's also been banned in the EU and the US since 1997" (from that vice article)

If the ice cream says vegetarian it does not contain cows blood, swim bladder or rennet. A lot of wine and beer does have fish based finings, or egg or milk based, though the idea is none should end up in your drink. Many wines these days are verified vegan, which makes it a lot easier to avoid

I was told about the ox blood in South Africa in 2009. Presumably not illegal there.
Possibly not, though illegal to import to the EU so we shouldn't see any currently :-)
Pistachio still available.
