Have used a cheap one last year... It was terrible. This one does look of better build quality. Good luck and please keep us updated

I think the design below has solved the clogging issue, although the price is not appealing...

    Anyone tried the spike shoes

I've got the spike "plates" that you strap around your shoes, but the straps were useless. Got around this by using an old pair of sturdy shoes and screwing the spike plate to the sole of the shoes.
If nothing else, they definitely give you a good leg workout!

With a pitch fork you not only push it down, you also lift so the aereated area is much larger.

I've used cheaper ones in the past and spent more time unclogging than anything else. m hoping to get a better result from this model. Was it this one in particular you used?

My "roller style" has just packed up. Next step was going to be a manual fork but surely the hollow ends just clog up?

Ha, ha, ha! Been looking at one of these for ages and paid £32 last week from elsewhere. Typical eh.

I only use it in small areas that are troubled, otherwise I’d be trying to manually aerate 800+ square metres. If I want to do the whole area, I’m hiring a petrol hollow tine aerator.

I have literally just ordered that one an hour ago. No delivery date as yet tho. Looks better and sturdier but £10 dearer.

Just my opinion here but if you're going to the trouble of aerating your lawn properly (hollow tines rather than just pushing holes with a fork, as someone said) then it's worth spending the money on hiring a petrol machine once a year. If you have a couple of neighbours or friends who can share the cost with you and also benefit, the price is fairly low and you'll have saved a lot of time for a professional finish.

This is what I'm doing - splitting between 2 or 3 of us. About £50 for a days hire.

Yes, I have these and used them without a problem. My neighbours were intrigued though .

Been looking for a decent one. This looks good however lack of ejector holes in the prongs will mean the soil will just stay in the prong?

Yep, awful! I found they intermittently stuck in the ground and they just don't go down far enough. I've used a hollow tine and the old-fashioned fork method and they've all been pretty tedious work.
I don't think there's a shortcut on this job unless you want to invest in / hire machinery.

Yeah this is the daddy of manual aerators. and it’s got the price tag to match!

Doesn't this one just look like the middle two tubes will clog or become a pain as the ejected soil will hit the foot bar? (edited)

So I recently got this. Tested it out on a small patch and was really pleased. It then rained overnight and the next day it was getting clogged immediately. I thought maybe too wet. After 2 days of sunshine the soil is very firm but still immediately clogged. I’m in SE London with clay soil, so your results may vary. Disappointed
