AV amp / speaker cable = essential

Subwoofer / speaker stands = desirable

Subwoofer = ESSENTIAL

can't watch a film without one, jus't doesn't have the same effect.

voted hot by the way.

Forgive me for being thick but isnt this just the '5' in '5.1'? I thought you needed a sub for it to be .1 with any amount of speakers, well 2+.

Pixmania = dodgy imports and unreliable descriptions and can't find a review in English !

Lukewarm vote since it could be a good deal but is it worth the risk ?

£8.60 P&P? ouch :whistling:

Don't know if this is any use to anyone but I found some info on the Kenwood website.

I'm with Cackles, it should be 5.0 shouldn't it?

You are right yes...as seen on the kenwood website this is a High Contrast Compact Design 5 Speaker Package

If you go through Amazon to buy from Pixmania:

amazon.co.uk/KEN…LSY

then only £4 shipping to UK on this product.

this seems like an excellent price for 5.1 120w speaker set!

wait a minute, this doesnt come with a sub?

Nope, all the speakers have their own spec here;

kenwood.eu/pro…ls/

So its a 5.0 set, hmm.

what is the diff between 5.0 and 5.1 ?????

5.0 is five speakers, 5.1 has 5 speakers + sub.

so just to clarify - does this come with a sub or not?

It does look like a simple 5 set up. Sorry. The site did say it was 5.1 but looks like its not.

Stil a good price though for branded speakers I think,

Looks like these are cheapo speakers which were bundled as a freebie with a budget Kenwood receiver:-
forums.audioholics.com/for…798

Each speaker only has a tiny two and three-quarter inch drive unit - don't pay any attention to the picture of a more expensive unit on the Kenwood page, there are no tweeters. Quoted 100Hz -30KHz response is meaningless as they "forget" to say at what dB points that was measured (100Hz could be 20 dB down!). The biggest speakers are less than 10" tall. The 120W handling is "Peak Input Power" so they'll probably struggle with 30 and distort horribly with more. They're pretty insensitive as well so volume will be limited (see above thread).

I can only find 2 user reviews (one Hungarian, one Greek) which give 9 and 5 out of 10.
testfreaks.co.uk/hif…all

Pixmania have "miraculously" converted the 120W peak input rating in Kenwood's spec to delivering 120W "output power".

Be careful too, their bargain bundle of speakers, speaker cable and DVD player omits one crucial component... the amp!

pixmania.co.uk/uk/…tml

Laws of physics, the deliberately ambigous spec, and the low price suggest that these probably sound no better than cheap PC speakers. If you buy on that basis, you might not be disappointed!

No, it's a five channel speaker set. It only has five speakers and you will need an Amplifier to connect them up.
