great microwave , i have this one !! good find op:thumbsup:

Does this unit have the new-fangled 'Smart Cook' barcode reader that some frozen goods have started to implement into their packaging?

I'd hope so for the original asking price. Any insight appreciated.

If you know where you can get a combination 'smart cook' microwave with a bar-code reader for £149.99 please post it on HUKD.

What makes these combo microwaves any good?

It's only a barcode reader. Are you implying that tech that's been around for decades is being sold for a premium on a microwave? :?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised... :-(

Funnily enough, having gone through the official 'Smart Oven' website to both the Currys and Comet retailers, I can't even find them in their stock portfolio!

Looks like they're selling really really well for mega-money.

I'm wasn't implying anything except perhaps why you thought £149.99 is a heck of a lot for a good quality combination microwave oven. I didn't even know there were 'smart oven' microwaves with barcode readers until you asked the question. Sometimes microwave ovens with just a grill are called combination ovens but this particular one has a grill and a proper fan-assisted convection oven so I don't think the original price is unreasonably high like you seemed to suggest in your original post.

We bought one of these a couple of months ago and took it back almost immediately. Main reason being the five, loud beeps emitted at the end of cooking time. Our last one did it too. Eventually drove us all mad. I then hunted down a Samsung which has a beepless mode and it's relative bliss. It has the swanky barcode reader too....but I'd never use that.

Wow! Taking back a microwave oven because of the beeps. My wife actually likes the loudish beeps because she can hear them from the living room and can tell when it has finished cooking. :giggle:

These are actually manufactured by curry's under a licensing agreement with Kenwood to use their name.

I bought one that developed a fault after 4 months (internal bulb failed) and curry's refeused to fix under the coverplan agreement. I raised the issue with Kenwood but they said their Microwaves sold by currys had nothing to do with them because Currrys manufacture them.

After brandishing the sales of goods act 1979 and a couple of letters I got a full refund. So if you consider this a hot deal if it had a completely unknown brand name (eg Maitsu) then go for it, but this ain't no Kenwood and that's why you won't see it on their site.

Voted cold based on previous experience, won't wish it on others

Who every got this microwave take it back to currys as there has been a safety recall. Risk of causing fire!!
