I have an older version of this fridge freezer hopefully they have sorted the fan motor issue. Right after the 2 year warranty the fan was making a racket and then stopped working. I bought a motor and then a new fan blade as I snapped it when re fitting. Parts were about 50£. Paid £340 in 2017.

I have a Samsung fridge that periodically makes a racket from the fan. With my fridge, the problem is that the auto-defrost does not correctly manage the ice accumulation around the fan. So once in a while, I unplug the fridge, unscrew the fan cover and melt the ice away with a hair dryer. No part necessary. This is a design fault but the fridge is now >10y.o.

Tried that and it didn't work.
I had the same issue with my previous Kenwood fridge...spent more in repairs than the cost of the unit!!! Definitely will never buy Kenwood again.
Hey peeps, I've just amended the price as managed to get a diff discount code making it even cheaper

I bought this freezer in July 2018 and just after the 12 months warranty ran out, our fridge freezer started making a buzzing sound. I thought it was a build up of ice from the auto-defrost and I defrosted it but it made no difference. I got a local engineer out who found that the fan bearing had worn out. He replaced it in about 20 minutes and cost me bout £130 all in. Other than that, it's actually a really good fridge and keeps fruit and veg fresh for weeks

Also Kenwood don't make this fridge, they just put their name to it ... so they didn't want to know when i tried to ring them about our fault.
I've had a Kenwood fridge from Currys too and it broke after 2 years. Needed a new compressor which would have cost £200 just for the part. Not knocking the deal as I paid about the same price. If you need a fridge freezer for the short term then go for it. If you want something that lasts longer, I recommend Samsung

I paid £370 in 2017 and had the same issue right after warranty had expired too! Luckily there is a YouTube video that shows how to do the DIY fan swap.
Avoid this - got it and the quality is awful. The fan went literally 4 days after the warranty finished!

I'd avoid - bought one in September 2018 and recently developed the fan issue. It's a fantastic price, however not worth the hassle. Have a search round and it's a common problem
Similar to the other comments, I have this exact Fridays freezer and at 13months the fan failed. Bearing destroyed itself and made a racket when in use. Reported it to Curry’s as Kenwood do not have any responsibilities over this product.

I spoke to the out of warranty team who asked I have an independent engineer report completed £30 and then they agreed under the Sale of Goods Act to replace the fan in the process picking up the cost of both the report and parts and labour.

The Engineer has said Samsung fridge freezers of £2K also suffer from this as they use a similar part. He replaced with an upgrades fan motor which he said he was assured would last. It’s a know problem and one that I guess Curry’s are happy to go on replacing.

it was a bit of a faff to get the report and claim the costs but still very happy with the product and does what’s it’s supposed to do and does it well... which is keep my food chilled/frozen!
How about extended warranty from Currys? Is it worth buying (5 years £96)?

If paying the price the kenwood is listed at, I'd defo take the warranty. To be honest, any electrical item I purchase (to be used for along time), I always take extended warranty (cost vs replacement cost) as many manufacturer's sell their name to be stamped on products.

Alot of manufacturer's are selling their brand names to be stamped on products NOT manufactured by themselves. However, I'm just surprised that some people did not take the extended warranty option. Regardless of the savings, any item that you plan to use for a considerable amount of time, it makes sense to weight out the cost of warranty vs cost of a replacement.

Same problem here. New fan cost about £20 ish and replacement is very simple to do. Although this is a well known issue at least it is cheap and easy to fix. Much cheaper than the extended warranty but that is still no excuse for using poor quality components. I might also add that the drawer rails are prone to breaking!
Quite a low price for an American style fridge freezer. I was aware that the good ones were going for mot around the 800 - 1000 pound mark, but of course you are purchasing something that you want top quality performance for 10 - 15 years. If they are going for such cheap prices I would be suspicious about how good they are.

I agree regarding the poor quality parts that ALOT of manufacturer's are now using. Same goes for my Samsung fridge/freezer, Grundig dryer etc. Miss the good old days where quality mattered to all manufacturer's. Even Aiwa were built to last. That's the reason that I ALWAYS take the warranty option. I'd rather let them sort the issue out than for me to start stressing, especially with a big investment.
Dont buy it. I have it. Its not even Kenwood. Its manufactured for currys and currys useless customer service is the one you will argue when problems appear. Quality below any standards.
I brought a kenwood fridge freezer very similar in December 2017.
When unwrapped and opened fridge door, it had a small airline crack in it.
Spoke to kenwood who where happy to replace the unit, but we’d just carried around the house and through where the back door should be (taken it and frame off to squeeze through)!
I asked for just the door to be replaced but they would not send a door and said they do not keep any spare parts or sell replacement parts and would only replace whole unit!
It has kept working but bits have broken, door seal comes off, and looks more like 10 years old.
Wouldn’t buy kenwood again,
Thabks for the warning wont be buying it x
Perfect for toilet rolls to make them last longer.
Strange heat for a company own brand
Hot deal! The perfect place to keep all my hand sanitisers chilled! That way they’ll take longer to expire.
Nice deal
Bit of a cheat on an existing thread but anyone recommend an under counter size fridge at the moment? Looking for a replacement as we have a fridge freezer and one of these that sit alongside each other but the little one has started playing up with compressor not coming on and have already repaired many times.

Thanks in advance, even if it is to recommend a brand or even confirm makes/models to avoid.
I went to Currys & said "can you sell me a fridge freezer". Lady said to me "Kenwood?" I said "well where's he then?

Definetly worth getting warranty, Kenwood fridges made by Currys.
You don't need extended warranty all white goods are expected by law to last so many years if it doesn't then you can claim that it is unfit for purpose

There's a fix for this. You can buy a new internal back for this fridge with repositioned temp sensors. I fitted one to mine and I've never had the icing problem since - definitely worth it. Got the bits on eBay and my fridge is going strong. Hope this helps.
Check the TRUSTPILOT page very carefully on this -

Great price, but voted cold as per every comment on the thread saying it's a bag of bolts.
We bought this fridge two years ago and have had two costly repairs to the fan and have just bought a different one as fan broke again....6 week wait on the parts so a bit of a disaster when it does break!

I have this model and had the exact same issue. I managed to fix myself by buying the part for circa £50. Still a decent price for what you're getting. Just be prepared to have to change the crappy fan
