I think you would be better off with an AMD R9 card since they support all features of DX12.

agreed, Maxwell GPUs don't support async compute, amd (with their utterly rubbish drivers) are sadly the better bet.

lol? I guess you haven't heard the news on async compute support.
That's 980 OC price; HOT.

True but it does point out that it's not as black & white as it may have seemed for the initial quotes

By the time DX12 hits the mainstream, I'll probably want an upgrade anyway (went from a 7750 to a 770GTX to a 980GTX and have been happy- since I'm mITX, I didn't have the thermals for AMD until the Fury)

Robert Hallock from AMD says “I think gamers are learning an important lesson: there’s no such thing as “full support” for DX12 on the market today. There have been many attempts to distract people from this truth through campaigns that deliberately conflate feature levels, individual untiered features and the definition of “support.”
I have a 670GTX and want to upgrade to whatever is best value for money, no budget. Titan X seems too expensive for the extra few %, so the 980ti appeals to me. Cheaper option, 970GTX or AMD 380X - will struggle more with 4K and would need SLI/Crossfire. All I care about is "whats the best value for money to play GTA V, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield etc @ 4K"

Answer is the 980ti, isn't it?

All the comments about async compute are really annoying because it doesn't seem to apply to my personal requirements and by time DX12 is the norm I'll upgrade again. Its hard to consume the information when there are also fanboys at large who seem to post on every deal. I know for a fact the 3.5GB 970GTX was and is still excellent value for money for 1080p gaming etc.

So far I'm finding 6gb sufficient for 4k. GTA V is using around 5.5gb @ 2160p.
A couple of extra gigs would have been reassuring though.

It scares me to think how much these cars would be if Fury never arrived.
All good for consumers though.
Let's hope purchasers won't regret their decision in a years time.

Superb. Most hilarious thing about the GTX970 debacle was that most GTX970 users UPGRADED to GTX980 because they were "SO MAD" at Nvidia.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, horrendous company with even worse fanbase.

Why? Are you committing the logical fallacy of assuming because it's not from some supposed "neutral" source that everything in there is a lie? How odd.

Yeah they are as deal posts, but they are just a dropshipper. It comes straight from the distributor. It did take 4 days to arrive though.
Sporadic

How'd you unlock it?

See here:

overclock.net/t/1…ool

But note I was really lucky to get a fully unlockable card. Most cards seem to unlock some shaders though, so you get a card that is exactly between the fury and fury x in performance.

yet currently offering the best gaming performance across the big titles. i couldnt give a sht if the card in my rig is red or green or to a reasonable extent what the best bang for my buck is (titan x is silly so lets exclude that) i just want the best, most hassle free single GPU.

X)
I'm kinda confused about this async thing. Does purchasing this card or any card mean you will not have certain feature of DX12 in the future?

Will there be driver updates to slowly incorporate more DX12 features or is it a bare bones hardware situation which will only be available to future cards with full support?:)
Is the R9 actually available yet?

I'd disagree. I currently have a GTX980 in my machine after coming from an HD7970. To be honest, I haven't really noticed the supposedly 'infinitely better' drivers, the extra performance over the AMD equivalent or the enhanced sense of 'ePeen'. Only fairly decent feature I've actually noticed over AMD has been things such as PhysX and enhanced lighting. Shadowplay is a nice bonus also.

Downsides have been:

Lower bang for buck compared to AMD rivals
Being part of a disgustingly hideous fanboy cult that act as though Nvidia actually give a damn about them
Disappointing thermal performance after reading how much cooler Nvidia cards run (runs the same 60 degs as my last GPU)
Did I mention the horrendous fanboy cult?

Overall, I'd say objectively there's no "massive difference" at all. I'll fluctuate between who offers the best cards for a budget I decide at the time. At no point has the "Nvidia experience" created any kind of loyalty in me toward them, whereas some people in this thread would seemingly die for them.
Is this better than an AK47?
If you paying this much for a graphics card then you may want to wait a little for this beast to be released fudzilla.com/new…390

i dont consider these differences insignificant, particularly the differences in minimum frame rate. i game at 1440p and the £50 or so premium for the 980ti over fury x is worth it for me.
That is very cheap for a 980 Ti! oO
I'm still happy with my 970 though. 100+ FPS on Witcher 2 and 78 FPS average on Shadow of Mordor

Team red if you want good DX 12 and wanna stay future proof!

Or you can stick with Nvidia and their overpriced crap
