Kind of pointless because you really need your CO alarm above the gas appliances like the hob and the boiler.

Not true! [Video]

Did you even watch that video?! Its advising you to install CO alarms near the boiler, just like i said. A useless location for a smoke alarm so owning a combined smoke/carbon detector alarm is pointless as you want a smoke alarm at ceiling height.

What? The red boxes around the radiator and window were locations where you DONT install CO alarms. The red box around the boiler within 3 meters is where it's best. Mate, I do this for a living, you want the CO alarm near gas appliances including the gas hob which is far more often more dangerous than the boiler.

Smoke alarms are no good in the kitchen where youd want a heat alarm, plus smoke alarms should be on the ceiling so unless your boiler is in the hall near the ceiling it's a waste of money and not as safety conscious to buy smoke/CO alarm combos.
Smoke and CO2 detectors should be mains operated,AFIK all councils in Scotland do this,I know it is not usually an easy job for private owners but it is worth getting an electrician to do it.Obviously battery operated are an option if for whatever reason you can't have mains.
