I have one of these which is now 3 years old. The instruction on mine says replace 10 years after installation. It is probably the same with a new one too, but I can't be sure.
(I paid £4 or £5 more for mine so I think this is a good price.) Heat Added

That's a good price for a combined detector, but I'm wary of them. Not just that if one box fails, you've lost smoke and CO detection; but also that a smoke detector needs to be mounted high up to sense products of combustion carried up by hot gases, and a CO detector needs to be fitted low since carbon monoxide is denser than air and, more or less, fills up the room from the floor upwards (which is why a bedside one should be fitted at the height your head is at when you're sleeping).

Edit: but according to this comment by WaftyCranker, it appears I have been misled by whatever leaflet it was that told me that CO is denser than air and I should mount the bedroom one at head height. So you may choose to disregard the second part of that last sentence above. Thanks for the correction, WC.

You had me worried there as my monoxide detector is on the ceiling but it would appear that carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air.

However, carbon monoxide is only very slightly lighter than air at the same temperature and pressure so the normal rules of diffusion and convection will apply: it will mix with it, so the detector should be placed where there is a good circulation of internal air. Then the height shouldn't matter.
