ASDA have 1 litre capacity glass cylindrical air tight kilner jars for just £1 which is cheaper than ive ever seen them.

These are great for anyone making goodies for Xmas, like mince or pickled things.

*These are not proper Kilner jars and are neither air nor water tight.*

Saw these in ASDA Clapham Junction in the normal homeware/kitchenware section. Not a special offer or anything so I assume they will be nationwide. Plenty on the shelf. Always a useful item.

Nice one ! It is going to be homemade presents for everyone this year so these jars are a great buy.:gift:

Perhaps if he hadn't we wouldn't have to tolerate Clarkson on the TV. :whistling:

great im going to make my own jars of sweets for gifts as they are so popular this year on high street but so over priced these will be great for that thanks

These aren't Kilner jars (the picture is correct, they are hinged not screwed).

george kilner blew my inheritance too.He was my great grandad,so how many more of his relatives were left with out any money? mind you at a pound a time there wouldn't be much to go round nowadays anyway

pretty sure I picked up one of these months ago for less than £1 in ASDA

nope..... bought a few some time ago. Okay for storing pulses etc but they are NOT WATER? AIRTIGHT.

Better off spending pennies elsewhere to get decent ones

I agree. Make sure you buy decent air tight ones for storing any preserves / chutneys / sloe gin etc. The difference in the price is usually minimal compared to the preparation time and the value of the items being stored in the jars.

Mine seem to be water tight so far. Got oil in one and vinagre in the other, neither leak when shaken vigoursly.

That's good to know. It is always worth checking first by filling with water and leaving upside down for a day. Obviously sealing it first.

It is not leaking you need to worry about (if standing upriht). It is spoiling the contents if air gets in. If everything is under the oil, you should be ok even if air does get in.

Loads in Manchester - Hulme and Manchester Fort (Asda Living). They make great candle holders especially outdoors!

Or just reuse jam jars for free, and much better than these jars for preserves because you will know they sealed right when the button pops down.
