at this price , l feel compelled to buy one even though i dont need one!

great spot .. ordered by phone getting delivered monday thanks op

But... The nexus 7 is only a bit more, and you get so much more for your money.

I agree this is a good deal if you want a kindle fire specifically, but if you're after a great value tablet you can't beat the nexus 7.

While I tend to agree in principal, if you care about any kind of aftersales support then Amazon are excellent and Google are atrocious.

Also, £140 for a Fire HD is still a stunning price.

I've used both the Fire HD and the nexus 7 (I own the nexus, my brother the fire hd) and while I have to agree I much prefer the nexus 7. The nexus works out at £30 more (after shipping) which is more then a bit more, you also can't walk into a store and pick one up (last time I checked) due to stock issues or the stores only stocking the 32gb version.

Some people prefer the locked/refined system as its easier to use from the off and the hdmi output + lovefilm application will be a winning point or atleast a nudge towards the fire hd for a lot of users.

great price for great piece of kit... love ours.

Or buy a brand new 32gb for cheap from me!

Awesome, sending hubby to pick one up later, failing that will order from head office. Great deal, thanks.

I own a Nexus 7 and think its the best tablet out there but for less tech savvy people and maybe older people the Kindle Fire is a very simple device to use. Fantastic price as well.

Yes, I got a FireHD and a Nexus7 (family members with similar ideas - or hints taken - for 50th birthday presents who didn't cross-check!) and overall I'd say I prefer the N7 as a general device and for web browsing. FireHD does feel very locked down ... but for "consumption device" its probably better ... and as a means for spending money at Amazon it has no competition!

what's the app market like for the kindle fire?

You can still sideload Play Store / Android Market onto the Fire.

How? any links for a novice?

140 to read a book !

Do you think Currys will price match this? If so you may be able to get it for £137 ( beat it by 10% the difference)

Dont forget 3% Cashback with Quidco

Nice, just purchased in store and picking up next week

(Not in stock)

got one

my girlfriend has this, and my best mate has the nexus 7. I must say that (as much as it hurts me) the kindle has a much better screen than the nexus. better colours and better black.

If you are comfortable tinkering with flashing software then they are very close to releasing cyanogenmod for this which will make it a beast. **** books, this thing has so much more potential.

You can also install alternative launchers and the google play store on this as well, although not officially supported.

How?

You have to order via phone/instore

??

Kindle fire is far too restricted.

If you want a bargain open android "name" tablet, I saw the new Acer b1 in store in Asda for £99, not bad, but battery is probably not great, maybe good for the home

Found the deal here..

Personally it's an ipad, galaxy tab, or a Nexus if you want a tablet
