Yes, this is for the previous generation kindle but 16GB for under £100 seems pretty good to me.

Excuse my ignorance but I'm looking for one of these for my daughter don't know much about kindles, by previous gen do you mean there's generations of the hd? I thought it only came out last year? Or do you mean it's not the new model they've released, just so I know what I'm buying thanks =)

it means that it was the version that was released last year, and not the new hdx or the hd that was recently released. hope that helps.
hi yeah me to confused is this worth getting ? To get for my daughter who is 11.
I already own one of these and I would recommend it !
thinking about one of these myself but not sure about being tied to amazon having to buy their apps etc.
There is no google play on a kindle just amazon apps . we have one my boy has and all the games like need for speed he cannot get on this that are on his phone . We had ours hacked to put google play on it as alot of apps are missing that are on google play

is this worth buying then or would I be better with a galaxy tab
If i could go back i would have got a nexus 7 his mate has one for kids the nexus is better
Which is better, this or the tab 2?

I have one of these and I love it, my 7 yr old son also loves this as does my 12 yr old daughter and they find loads of games to play and things to do on it ! I would recommend this for kids 100% !
Wife has this, loves it,6 yr old has nexus,he loves it,google play etc breeze for dvd rips too
All i would say is for 100 quid it is good but then i got a nook hd for 50 quid last month spent 15 quid having it rooted with jellybean 4.2 and that for 65 quid its ended pretty good . My lad has a samsung s3 phone and if i had got him a google play tablet to start with all the apps paid for on his phone would just be on his tab at no extra cost .all his account would sink etc. There are alot if apps missing he gets on his phone that are not on this to start with . Now we had it rooted and play store installed in the end and it's a lot better . If your kids already has games they love . Get a tab with google play on it from the start . Get a nexus
can you get one for the same price don't really want to spend too much for my daughters first tablet?
If you want Google Play games is Android you can get a Nexus 7 for £120-130 brand new Carphone Warehouse. EBay for £100 from a decent seller. If you're spending a 100 then a little more means its not wasted. I have one. Tried a Kindle but its just odd!
But it is an ebook reader, right?
Tbh hold back as these and other tablets will all £100 in 2-3 weeks. They are top of Christmas present list. Keep an eye out for deals. Don't buy just yet!
ok thank you for your help will wait.
The nice thing about android and apple is that all your devices sink up and you move from one to the other and the screen is bigger etc. kindle feels like its separate unit . If i had got it for mum mum she would had loved it but my 12 year old old was quite disappointed what he could do with it out of the box . Compared to his samsung s3 phone
You don't need google play or to root to put some of the google apps on.
See previous threads.
Only down side is no gps.
Sound and video quality excellent.
Build quality a big plus
I have one and I like it a lot only downside is the app store which isn't as good as other tablets but it has all the ones I really care about like iplayer netflix and a few free games.
Friday payday for many next week 29th November will have some good offers.... Black Friday... Likely Amazon will have further reduction prob Kindle £89 I'd guess!
You cannot side load paid apk files . Only free ones like itv player as your account is not in the machine . Sure you can play angry birds and other games but this tablet is limited

An s3 is a £300 phone a kindle fire hd is a £100 tablet more for watching movies reading books with some apps and games thrown in I don't see why you would buy one for games when you can get something like a ds or psp for around that price that gives a much better experience especially when hes happy playing android games on his s3.
Gutted as I ordered a standard refurb one last week for £99 =( Might return it and get this one if they let me
Amazon have really limited android on the Kindle Fire, so if you are buying it as an android tablet, my advice is don't, not even at this price. The lack of access to the play store is a killer - you miss out on so many good games. Spend a bit more and buy a hudl.

Was torn between this and:

Ultimately chose the Kindle due to the battery life since it'll mostly be used as an ereader, even though the tab 2 is better in almost every other area.
I was just about to post this. It seems like a great deal.

good deal,hot.
Nice price, but i would like to see what the likes of this or anything similar might be next monday...black friday deals week... usually some not bad offers on older gen stuff like this
For those that are unsure/unaware, just because this has the Kindle brand, it's not an e-reader as we know it!
The conventional/original e-readers use e-ink which mimics ink on paper. This has less of a strain on the eyes.
Kindle Fire and its variants use LCD screens like TVs and tablets which allows them to run videos and fancy graphics, but at the detriment to the reading quality! Staring at an LCD screen for a long time is not a good thing.

There is also a Kindle app available for Android and iOS which allows you to read your kindle purchases on most tablets or phones, so an iPad or Samsung Galaxy mini tab 2 could be used for reading in exactly the same way as this is.

If you intend to read books on this, I recommend the Kindle Paperwhite (which has a backlit screen) or Nook Glowlight. The light makes a huge difference as these screens are normally useless in the dark. Installing software called Calibre allows you to transfer free books e.g. Project Gutenberg
If you intend on using this as a tablet with the Kindle function intended to be a marginal feature, then this is a great price, but my preferred device would be a Nexus 7.
Sorry i've not a clue about tablets, would this be good to simply surf the web and watch things on you tube?

You can surf the web and watch YouTube, Netflix, love film etc you can also get Facebook, BBC i player, itv player, watch live tv, download music onto it and play loads of games and apps ! My hubby bought me mine for my birthday and i wasn't sure i would ever use it or know what to do with it but i wouldn't be without it now and its a fraction of the cost of an iPad.
Oh and you can read books on it !!!!
Anyone know how long this deal will be on? Want to get it my mum for Christmas
