Kindle Fire HD 7 Inch Tablet - 16GB £100 @ Argos + free £10 voucher, reserve for collection

Kindle fire HD 16gb ( old version ) now £100 at argos, £1 more than Amazon had it for but a £10 argos voucher is included when you spend £100. Delivery an extra £3.95 but there looks like plenty of store stock to reserve and collect.

Why is this cold? It is £119 at Amazon.

Possibly because this is the 2012 gen version, same one now selling at Amazon for £159: amazon.co.uk/kin…+hd

Link is working fine for me
Argos product code: 814/0498

Agree with Predikuesi this is a bargain especially with the £10 voucher which essentially brings it to £90

whats the difference between the old an dnew?

Key differences are as follows:

2012
- Has front camera and mic
- Has micro HDMI port (big plus)
- 16GB of storage
- heavier
- no mains plug, only USB cable
- old OS (mojito 2)
- cheaper genuine case from Bristol camera i.e. £12 + postage (£2.50)

2013
- Lighter
- No front facing camera, mic and hdmi port
- Start with 8GB of memory
- Slightly faster dual core 1.5 (same processor as 2012 8.9 kindle fire HD)
- Same resolution as 2012 gen
- comes with mains plug
- New OS (mojito 3)

The Argos voucher terms are interesting

If your order is between £50.00 and £99.99, you have qualified to receive a FREE voucher worth £5.
OR
If your order is over £100.00, you have qualified to receive a FREE voucher worth £10.

So if its exactly £100 you get nothing?

does anyone know how the 'special promotions' work if you buy the kindle through a third party like argos?

Buying through amazon you can select to pay more for no advertising but reading the small print it looks like amazon may charge you to switch off the advertising if you buy one which has 'special' promotions' enabled.

There should be a option to pay amazon £10 to remove the special ads, within the Kindle Fire HD

Thanks for clearing that up - I think its naughty to charge extra for that without people knowing though.

I have the 8GB 2013 Fire HD waiting for me at Tesco which cost £89

Do I keep it or go for this....the HDMI out is a big plus and a camera would be useful too. Decisions decisions.

It WAS £119, then £99, now £159. This price is all over the place!
amazon.co.uk/kin…AWU

This deal is better than all Amazon prices if the £10 voucher is worth more than a quid to you.

There's also a MSE linked deal for £25 of a refurb'd Kindle Fire (£99 list price) on Friday, but that model is inferior to this
amazon.co.uk/Cer…3PG

It's a bit of a minefield because they use Fire as a blanket term for all their tablets whether it's first gen, first gen HD, second gen, bigger 2nd gen, HDX and so on. Just like Samsung Galaxy, it's easy for an outsider to get lost in all the similarly named models and think they're getting something but in reality they end up with a watered-down, shrunken down item vaguely similar to what they wanted.

Heat for both deals, but this one is my preferred one.

If you are buying this as a gift for someone, beware of the following and consider buying it from somewhere else in case you need to return it for what ever reason e.g. Duplicate present

I waiting out for the 79 Alditab quadcore

I too noticed the part about excluded from 30 day money back guarantee.
However, my OH bought 2 today, one for our son and one for a friend who asked us to pick one up.
He was told that it is returnable if still sealed and you have receipt. Or of its faulty. Perhaps have to check with your argos store but ours said it would be accepted

i have just reserved one at currys and one at argos, i have a £20 voucher from currys that i got when i got my last one so hoping it all goes to plan i will get them to price match

Is this the newest model as Id prefer the newest but unsure if this is it or the one from last year

the old model - the one posted here I am sure - can be rooted and reflashed with CyanogenMod and thus replace the Kindle version of Android.

do this at your own risk

I have just ordered mine for collection.
I missed the same one which is now selling at Amazon for £159 and was £99 last Friday. (29/11/13 - black Friday shopping)
amazon.co.uk/kin…8-1
So for a penny more I have the same one.
Considering it has a camera and the new version does not, why would you order the new version.

I read reviews of both 2012 and 2013 Fire HD and decided on the 2013 for £89 from Tesco Direct. The reviews said that the cameras were not top quality and only worth considering if you were going to use the Kindle for skyping/videocalling.

Isn't that the main function of a tablet camera?
People who pull out iPads or other tablets in public to take photos just look weird!

Yea I read some reviews and the 2012 version seemed to come out better. HDMI port and camera were removed from 2013 version in order to make it cheaper to buy apparently.
We also missed the £99 amazon deal but at least with argos we can return to store if faulty as we were advised. Not to mention the £10 voucher x

Point taken, I was considering it for Skype/videocalling I have relatives abroad, I would'nt consider it for taking photos. But thanks for tha feedback

As holly said above. We were given ours when we collected the tablet instore. X

Thanks

Thank you for your feedback, I now know I will get the £10 voucher when I collect tomorrow.
Although ewwaxo has put a mix into the equation after mentioning the Aldi Tablet Quad Core.
But no reviews are out yet, and the previous one from Medion not great.
So I will settle for this for now.

Reserved this at two argos stores last night, turned up at both to find they were shut for refurbishment (yet it still let me reserve and waste my evening?!). Now today the deal is no longer on!!! serious f*** you Argos! not buying squat from you guys this year!

Venting over, this was an otherwise brilliant deal so good on you guys who managed to get one :-)
