PC

I've never had any problems with the ads, they only appear when it's turned on and most of them are quite informative.

When you pay as much as you do for these tablets you should not then be bombarded by adverts

Eventually after much complaining a customer 'service' imbecile finally removed it

I'm not at the Fire stage, but reckon this deserves heat. So heat.

I have never been "bombarded" by ads, as I said, one ad appears as you turn it on and that is it, nothing else. Nowt. Never annoying or intrusive imho.

Apart from using the Battery life, internet bandwith (although low) ... but if you happy with the adds that is good.

Still not acceptable IMHO......when you buy something you should not have to see adverts.....it's another matter if you are getting something for free as for example you do with OVIVO mobile.......but if you pay full price for anything it should not then advertise other products & services....even one a day

Agree. I'd also add a support for Google Play. Why do people buy FIRE from Amazon when there are plenty of fully functional tablets on the market?

Thanks OP. Just done this, no arguments. Hope this thread doesn't turn into yet another argument about whose tablet is better.

Just to be clear.. people buying this ARE opting to buy the version with the adverts. The full price one doesnt have the adverts. Thats the deal when you opt for the cheaper one.

In this case its actually perfectly justified.

If you buy from a store like Argos, you don't get to choose which one you get. They only stock the one with adverts, so a lot of people who got them as gifts will never have been given the choice.

Thanks for the heads up, heat added

Worked for me. Tried previously and they wanted to charge £10 so I left it. Went on chat, talked to Nibu, and all done within 2 or 3 minutes. :-)

It's no less acceptable than tv adverts are... You aren't paying full price for this tablet (as someone else mentioned, the ad-version is £10 cheaper) and you aren't paying full price for the running of the TV channel. At least this way you get the option to pay more for no adverts!

Did this at xmas for father in law. took 5 minutes and was all sorted.

You DO get a choice in Argos... You get the ad-version by default for £10 off, then can pay £10 to Amazon (or seemingly now, £0) to upgrade to the ad-free version.

SO WHAT? THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT ORIGINALLY.

If you had said "Argos should make clear that they are selling the ad-supported version" then I would have agreed with you. What you actually said was that it was "unacceptable" to sell something that includes adverts - something I strongly disagree with.

Unless an item is clearly advertised as being ad-supported then Amazon should not provide an ad supported version. It should be an obligation on Amazon to ensure that any item they are selling or having sold with an ad supported price should have to be clearly marked as such.....this should not be a retailer issue unless Amazon are telling them to market as ad supported & the retailer is not doing so.

Any retailer selling the devices should have to clearly mark that it is the "with special offers" version & exactly what this means (As Amazon actually do on their website)
