Or buy from John Lewis with 2yr guarantee at same price.
If only they'd make a white bezel version. My Sony reader, white, will give up the ghost soon, and the Paperwhite is the only alternative, thanks to Calibre. See what the next generation or two brings.

Doesn't calibre work with other readers?
Isn't that the standard price?
Also, how's the sideloading of boks nowadays? Is it a pain to do?

I've used Calibre for years on mine. I've not seen anything to suggest it's not still just a straight forward and simple process but I'll hold off on paperwhiting if that's the case so grateful too for any update from the community

I mean I can convert all my existing epubs into kindle editions, connect, transfer and go, or email a mobi version to the kindle account (you need to specify and allow email from an address within your kindle account settings).
I email books to my parents' kindles, I just haven't got one yet because I prefer epubs and my Sony.

I'm sure Calibre works with almost all of them. Picked up a Kobo touch for a fiver in a charity shop, and within 10 minutes had a chunk of my Kindle library on there.

Standard price is £119.99, but is often reduced (Prime Day, Mothers Day, Black Friday etc). Bought one yesterday with another tenner off from Prime Now.
Very easy to sideload books - either email them or drag and drop
Tempted as my original Paperwhite is getting old.

Would have go through the faff of convincing them that my elderly grandmother is confused by the adverts, to get them taken off again.
Any better ebook devices on the horizon?
That's a good price comparatively. I still think these things are overpriced for what they are.
Worth the £90 to upgrade from a basic Kindle to this?
Shall I buy this or the fire 7? Any thoughts people.

Out of interest, what are you hoping for over and above this? I’ve got one of these (had other readers previously) and they’re amazing. Curious to know what may be missing.

Cheers

100%. Black background, white text is a big plus for me. Battery life is excellent, screen is sharp, it’s nice to hold and backlight is great. It’s waterproof too so you can float around in the pool on holiday without worry. I’ve recently upgraded and I’m very very happy with it.

The Fire 7 is a normal Android tablet, so battery life will be much less, and the screen won't be as visible in bright light. But, it will let you do more than just read books as you can install other Android apps.

So, really they both have different use cases and it depends what you're looking for - a dedicated ereader built specifically for that, or a more general purpose device.
Really want to upgrade because of the waterproofing but can't justify it as my current paperwhite is still going strong (only upgraded to that from the kindle keyboard for the built in light). Bulletproof devices in my opinion. Use it most days.
