I was just thinking of buying a kindle the week before the new version was released, and I procrastinated just long enough that I hadn't bought it... which then meant I had to wait another couple of weeks for BF to see what the "real" price was going to be. Now the waiting's over :-)

That's the premium one, this is the latest Paperwhite which has had waterproofing added to it.
Really disappointed, thought BF would match their £50 off deal recently
Same price in Argos I think if that helps anyone - although I don't know a lot about the different models.
Awesome thanks so much
If this was £ 50, 60 then but too pricey atm
Same price in currys too
I've had 2 kindles fail just after coming out of their guarantee period.

Anyone know if the one out of Argos at £89 doesn't have the special offers on it?
Anyone any ideas why the standard kindle @ £59 hasn’t been reduced anywhere?

That's why I got mine from John Lewis, 2 years warranty.

Ditto. Mine stopped working after warranty just expired. Despite challenging, Amazon would only offer 15% off a new model. Shame but worked out more expensive than buying books
Was going to buy if they had matched the previous £50 off whch i wasn’t eligible for but i cant bring myself to commit at this price knowing it was cheaper

It was the old model that had £50 off - this model (waterproof with audible) was only released just over a week ago..
Tempted by this but a bit dissappointed in my current Kindle. Only had it for a year and the battery is already dying, needs charged every couple of days now.
Planned Obsolescense
Cheaper at JL (4p) and 2 yr warranty.

The special offers is a good thing. It will recommend books etc that you might also enjoy reading similar to what you are currently reading and at a discounted price etc.

I've bought a fair few books through it and enjoyed them! It's not just random adverts etc.
Kind of annoyed to be honest, it only came out just over a week ago, I had it pre ordered and it's already £30 off, thanks Amazon

Contact them via the online chat and they should refund the difference. (at least they have done in the past)
4p cheaper at John Lewis and you get a 2 year warranty
Was going to purchase one of these for my partner for Christmas, do people reckon this is the cheapest it will go?

Not sure but buy from JL and return up to 28 Jan for refund and buy from elsewhere if it does.

Tried that, they refused. I haven't used it so ill send it back.
Never had a kindle before. Is it better to get the one with special offers or no special offers?

Try again - sometimes you have to ask twice and point out that you are eligible to return the item, so it makes sense for all concerned for them to "make a one time exception to their policy" as they have done for others in similar circumstances in the past to avoid the costs and trouble for you and them in dealing with a return. Have never not had them see sense, though sometimes have had to ask two or three times so they know I really mean it!
Just contact Customer service on Amazon, tell them you dislike the offers on screen and they will remove them for free.

I tried to get them to do a refund of the difference, but they refused, but said that I could send mine back for a refund even though I've been using it since it arrived last week. I've the new one on order
Did you press them though? Sometimes it takes a second or third polite email... has always worked for me
Was going to get this until I realised I can’t read library books from overdrive on it
I got thus a week ago also, serves me right I suppose, new black Friday was coming, just did not think they would drop the price of this so soon after coming out!!
With the new 4g version can you download the audiobooks on it without wifi?
If you're buying from Amazon, it's worth seeing if you're eligible for these two offers to save an additional £11 -
Top up reward of £5 on a £40 top up - amazon.co.uk/b?i…031
£6 promotional credit when you buy £30 of gift cards - amazon.co.uk/b?i…738

I checked to see if I qualified for the gift card promotion first without actually buying any. Then I topped up my account by £40 and the £5 was added immediately. After that, I purchased a £30 gift card, sending this to a secondary email address. I used the code to add the £30 to my Amazon account, which meant I then had £75 in my account.

The £6 promotional credit can take 48 hours to arrive, but I received a confirmation email exactly 24 hours after I'd purchased the gift card. It's shown as a reduction at the checkout.

Having said that, you can buy it for £10 less with the special offers, then later if you don't like them you can pay £10 to have them removed. So if you don't already know I'd recommend buying with them, and decide later.
