Unbelievable no stock in the uk where did these come from anyway im happy

Heat given, great spot OP

Not for me though, I have tried one already in a store and surprised to find no great improvement over the keyboard 3G version in terms of page turning speed. Felt quite slow intact.

Good video review here from The Verge, to me it shows this laginess (though reviewer is impressed (?) )

However for folk without a kindle this is hot

Thanks ordered - can cancel my Amazon order now.

Thanks for that OP. Had one on order from Amazon for a few weeks but can pick one up from my local Tesco on Monday afternoon for a tenner cheaper now.
Cheers HH.

i paid 109 a few weeks back on amazon. damn awesome!

Brilliant find - save £14.50 and get it weeks earlier than I was going to! Thanks!

Brilliant :-) Thanks op. Have cancelled my amazon order and whilst it still cost me the same I am collecting it Monday :-)

Brilliant :-) Thanks op. Have cancelled my amazon order and whilst it still cost me the same I am collecting it Monday :-)

Bought from Amazon a few weeks back but just posting to say the 'paperwhite' backlit screen is wonderful - a good upgrade from the old Kindle touch :-)

Terrible name.
I can't be the only person constantly reading it as "Kindle Paperweight" - which doesn't exactly cement an image of reliability into the mind.

Thanks OP, gave up on getting this before going abroad

Is this worth an extra £40 over a standard kindle

All gonna be cancelled ha ha ha

Owning this and the Kobo Glo, the Kobo uses the same resolution screen but the front light is far better. Also more ability to customise fonts and sort collections with Calibre (freeware e-book management). My Paperwhite was sent back to Amazon.

It has a touch screen and a back-light.

They also claim it has a higher resolution which is technically true but somewhat negated by the technology they use to backlite the screen (i.e. they have to put a filter over the screen so the backlite is more even, this filter reduces the contrast and they had to increase the PPI to compensate).

They have also said that the battery is bigger in the Paperweight and while this is technically true, the backlite also consumes more power than a traditional Kindle would. So the net result seems to be (at least anecdotally) that the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite have a similar-ish lifespan (28 hrs give or take).

So basically it is a Kindle with a backlite and a touch screen. For me personally the touch-screen is the biggest feature as navigating on the basic Kindle was a little annoying and I have grown used to touch screens.

Nice one. Thanks!

DonkeyKonk: Not really about improved page turning speed etc. Been waiting on them sorting an illuminated Kindle for a while (read a lot in bed & don't want to disturb my better half). Ordered & heat added OP

which would be the best, the one posted by other person or this for the same price Kindle Fire want to get one a present for someone but i don't read so wonder which would be the best, i bought a kobo last xmas and thought that was ok.

I always read it as paperlight - which isn't bad.

Thanks for posting, ordered!!

Paperwhite has a front-lit screen rather than back-lit. Technical spec here:

You're lucky - some of us Dyslexic Turrets people keep swapping the 'W' for a 'S'... oO

Good deal OP - Thanks & one ordered via quidco...

Fair does, I was excited when they were first announced, but felt a bit let down when I tried it, expected it to be a bit zippier. This is a hot deal though. When you think I had to pay £50 for a case with the light built in (actually got mine for £30) for the old model this new model is excellent value

If they read much they will love you forever if you get them a paper white. The kindle fire is a strange tablet if you ask me (which you did, sort of)

good thing that most of us doesn't take part in speed reading championships...how this can even be considered as a con with gadgets like kindle ?

Thank you OP, £10 saving plus no waiting around, perfect!

Nice one... Saw this thread after I'd bought the paperwhite actually using the standard Kindle deals code. Had to create a new account though as I'd used the code on the pre order for Grand Theft Auto.

Get to pick it up on Monday.

Figured this deserved heat anyway for bringing it to the masses.

I've ordered 1 although I don't have a lot of confidence in Tesco.

I have ordered one as well as I would rather get it sooner than my order I have open with Amazon in possible.

Cheers OP! Will wait until collection on Monday before cancelling my Amazon order though.

Thanks. Ordered and hopefully will collect on Monday. Brilliant deal.
