The Diary of Anne Frank (The Definitive Edition)

I bought this book for £4.99 and now it shows a price of £0.75. I don't

know how long the promo will last, so grab it while you can!

  • Description:

Among the most powerful accounts of the Nazi occupation, "The Diary

of Anne Frank" chronicles the life of Anne Frank, a thirteen-year old

girl fleeing her home in Amsterdam to go into hiding. Anne reveals the

relationships between eight people living under miserable conditions:

facing hunger, threat of discovery and the worst horrors the modern

world had seen. In these pages, she grows up to be a young woman and a

wise observer of human nature. She shares an unparalleled bond with her

diary, which holds a detailed account of Anne's close relationship with

her father, the lack of daughterly love for her mother, admiration for

her sister's intelligence and closeness with her friend Peter. Anne

Frank's account offers a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and

spirited young woman who turns thoughtful and learns of the many terrors

of the world.

Oh, is that not copyright trolling? Anne is the author not her dad who edited it. It's 70 years from the death of the author not an editor right?
Because the dead can't collect royalties.
Thanks. Tried to find same on Google Play Store but couldnt.

Anne wrote it in Dutch, it wasn't published in English until 1952, 5 years after the firs publication. Surely the English edition is copyright of the translator? Unless the translator gave up their claim to it in exchange for a fee - presumably to the publisher or Anne Frank' Father - in which case the copyright passed to them.
Is this the original edition or the Catholic church censored one?

I think it's the original edition.
Shouldn't this be out of copyright by now?
Frankly, I don’t give a damn.

Why would copyright pass to a translator? It's for the author you shouldn't be able to just pass it to anyone involved and extend the copyright forever.

Looks like the Anne Frank foundation is acting shady, especially as the Anne Frank House was planning a special free version.
I think

I think you're underestimating the importance of a translator. The difference between one translation and another can be lime reading an entirely different book.
Many books are translated without any credit to the translator - where they 've just been paid a fee and have no claim to the copyright.
But often classics are published under the translator's name. Try reading different translations of Kafka or Ovid; some will put you off the original author, others are fantastic.
It's like the difference a conductor makes to an orchestral piece or a band recording cover versions of a song. Performers get royalties and own the copyright on recorded music, why shouldn't translators?

No my point is the translator isn't a listed author. Unless the transltor is listed as a co author then the from 70 years of death royalties shouldn't apply for them. They are clearly worried about their cash cow coming out of copyright and are now using copyfraud to protect it. Athough they aren't using the translator as an excuse, they are now saying using the dad just before it comes out of copyright.

Apples and pears comparing it to recoreded cover music.

You should read it before making assumptions. With that said, the ending was rubbish.

According to the news, a few years ago, that would likely be the accurate category for the book.

But it's not 100% accurate overall, because the father is deemed co-credited as the author. That ends the copyright for 70 years from 1980 I think?

Don't mention the ball point BIC pen...?

Could be based on the rumours of German U boats refuelling there during WWII?
