If you have to use shaving cream how do you see the hair so you can do a beard line? Genuine question
There's shaving oil. Been quite a few years since I used oil but king of shaves oil was quite good but more expensive. However I find having a more watered down shaving foam to help see beard line better sufficient, providing face has had time to soak in very warm lather and lots of rinsing. Would recommend leaving the razor in hot water for a minute prior to shaving too. Also with double edged razor (if it's a good heavy metal one) the trick is use the razors weight to help shave using gravity and angled so there's little friction against skin, not so much dragging it against the skin like a plastic razor. For some final strokes to tidy closer to beard line, I can get away with warm water without applying extra foam.

That said, most of the time I used an electric Philips oneblade as much quicker without the prep work, albeit not a close shave. I use the DE razor when I'm not in a rush.

I have only ever used an electric shaver. How would these compare, would I soon cut my face to bits?
At first yes. Watch some YouTube videos on technique.

My wife bought me a double edged shaver 15 years ago - I didn’t really get on with it but kept for sentimental reasons. I have had all the razor blades too (100 for less than £10).

I started shaving every day again (rather than stubble/beard) - initially with a bulldog shaver which was quite nice. Thought I’d give the double edge a go and really pleased with the result! Sure, need to be a little more careful, but with king of shaves serum, working a treat.

And the razors are way cheaper - it is suggested the blades last 3-4 shaves. I’m currently working on 2 shaves and done but I’ll start to stretch soon.

Takes a bit of getting used to but I highly recommend double edged razors. More cost effective, less irritation and a cleaner shave (edited)
