SSD prices are through the roof at the moment and for those, like myself, who are doing cheap builds for friends and family it's becoming increasingly difficult to do a cheap build with a Solid State Drive.

Kingdian is a lesser-known Chinese brand that I've used a couple of times recently. All of my builds have lasted > 1 year and the performance has been fine for the prices that I've paid for these from GearBest.

This drive benchmarks around the 550/350 read/write speeds - which compares favourably with the entry-level TLC offerings that are more expensive right now.

This drive has over 270 reviews on GB and a 5 star rating.

I remember the days when I could get a Crucial branded 240GB drive for £45, but they're gone for the moment so I'm making do with is available and I'm confident, based on previous builds, that this will be just fine for my modest purposes.

This is on a flash sale right now, so you've got about 20 hours to benefit from it.

Also note that the 120GB version is around £40 on the site right now.

heat. good price for what is an expensive item atm. ssd and ram were the 2 main offenders in pushing me over budget in a recent build.
worth the hassle to save 10-15? long delivery time plus warranty won't be worth the paper it's written on with shipping fees back.

amazon.co.uk/San…ssd

I know people will be looking for as cheap as possible, just my thoughts, not voted
king who? dont think so
I must admit. Saving £10 to risk data and rebuild time is not worth it imo.

GearBest sent me a used broken drone.
I have one of these drives, bought it on a lighting deal from Amazon last year. No problems to speak of but I would be wary buying it from Gearbest purely because should anything go wrong you will have to ship it back to China at your expense. However, if you use paypal as your means of payment, they will (paypal) pay up to £15 of the shipping cost.
I've had quite a few things from Geabest. Not had a problem yet....
Amazon sell King Dian SSDs and have done for a long time.
This (or similar drive) is £68 on Amazon - can get tomorrow on Prime or a couple of days normal post rather that wait a week or more from Gearbest

The prices of SSD's right now is just insane, picked up a MX300 750gb for £105 on black Friday which was only 5 months, they are now being sold like hot cakes even at £180 on Ebay.

Good price IMO (at the minute).

P.s. Current prices are primarily due to strong worldwide demand for solid state memory.
commodity prices for flash memory has risen due to supply restrictions but also the price inflation from Brexit has also played its part...

anyone worrying about the quality of these drives there is no need I have used over 200 and not a single failure which is more than I can say for branded sandisk plus drives

yeah but let's keep quiet about the worldwide memory manufacturing price increases and blame it all on brexit!
I bought one of these, failed after 4 months of use in my HTPC. YMMV.

Is there a way to work out whether the price in Euro or Dollars has risen to the same extent.
That would go some way to quantify the Brexit effect.

You could try to use amazon as a baseline and check camelcamelcamel against the UK site and see if the price correlation deviates around brexit time. You'd need to try a bunch (> 25) of products to get any proper statistical significance.

I bought a small kingdian ssd for my htpc about two years ago, cos it was the only ssd I could afford with my limited budget.

It's a little slower than the sandisk ssd in my laptop but hasnt missed a beat.

If you dont have the budget for a branded option & it's not for important data then it's certainly an option imo.
