Not quite as good as the £15.99 Argos deal a few weeks ago, but for those of us without time machines this looks to be the best price available delivered and an overall cracking price for the content thats included.

From Kotaku:

Also I found this which I think is more helpful as it covers the 2.8 game as well and explains why you should stick to this Play Order.

From HD 1.5:

1) Kingdom Hearts Final Mix - Essentially a remake of the first Kingdom Hearts.

2) Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories - A high-definition remake of the GBA game Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, which takes place between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II.

3) Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - This is a remake of the DS game of the same name, which also takes place between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. The catch: They removed all the gameplay. The version included in this compilation is a three-hour cinematic version of the story.

From HD 2.5:

1) Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix - A remake of the second Kingdom Hearts.

2) Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix - This is an HD version of the PSP game Birth by Sleep, which is a prequel to the first game. It’s an important one to play if you want to understand the Kingdom Hearts story. Just kidding. Nobody understands the Kingdom Hearts story.

3) Kingdom Hearts Re:coded - Just like 358/2 Days before it, this is a cinematic retelling of the DS game Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. It takes place after Kingdom Hearts II

Release play order including the game
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue this covers all of them:

  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (Keep in mind about the new cutscenes in 2.5)
  • Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance
  • Kingdom Hearts X[chi] on PC Browsers (Watch the first 53 videos in the playlist)
  • Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover
  • Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep (KH3's prologue. Taken out of KH3 due to the games increased content and to avoid another 2-3 hour-ish prologue like in KH2. KH3 will now start immediately. Do not play before Back Cover. You'll see why.)
  • Kingdom Hearts Union X (Watch all videos remaining in the playlist until you are up to date)

No. There is also a Kingdom Hearts 2.8 bundle available on PS4 that contains 3 more titles. This is the one to start with though if you’re new to the series.

So if you're only interested in the core games you'd get this and play the two final mixes and then wait for III?

I think in terms of getting all the story content you’d need to fully appreciate III when it’s out you would need to play the titles included in 2.8 as well.
But if you are literally only interested in playing the 2 ‘core’ games then this is all you would.

It's a series I've always overlooked due to the Disney characters meaning I could never take it seriously. That said, I feel I may be missing out on a highly regarded series and I do like RPGs.
