Apparently they had issues when first released and was fixed with firmware update. If you do buy one check it has the latest firmware on it.
Could I suggest referring people to the ebay deal to discuss the merits or otherwise of this particular drive as that ones already been flooded with argie-bargie on the updated firmware... And my head is bloomin' wrecked with it all!?!
Yeah. I have just been reading that thread and theres loadsa posts about the drive. The basic answer is (that I found elsewhere anyway) is that the drives should be fine now with the firmware update that is most likely already on the drive anyway.

The drives are at the slower end of the range but then the price is at the lower end too.

you can install the firmware yourself. It's advisable to do it first, before you start putting anything on it.
Agreed. I was just trying to point out the problems people report should not be there.
ordered one showing Ship Date: 14/08/2012

They may have overdone it a bit selling over a thousand at once
does anyone have ssd drive without issues? as me myself and my friends who had ssds started having problems within one month.

Actually, this is exactly the same drive as the eBay one as the model numbers quoted in both places are identical. The only "real" difference is 1p.
Everyone talks about the failure rates of SSDs so I am still unsure if I can be bothered saving a few seconds here and there as a boot drive. Then again in my work (in IT) I have seen plenty of HDD's fail within weeks of being bought.

Thing to remember is people only post online to complain about things. Not many people will take the time to post online saying "my SSD runs great no problems).

My SSD runs awesome no problems. You have a lot to learn. Just get one! Stop peddling the nonsense that SSDs are all about boot times. As far as I'm concerned that isn't important, but yes boot times are massively increased. My SSD is the single best performance upgrade I have ever done on any machine. Obviously if you're a gamer a gfx card would be more important.

Very tempting but going to hang on until Samsung's cash back offer starts in a week and pick up a 256GB instead. £/GB should work out similar to this then.
£8.00 delivery for Northern Ireland- I thought ebuyer had scrapped all that!
So if I'm running on SATA2 would I notice any difference between this and say Crucial/Samsung/Intel? Being that it wouldn't be able to reach top speed anyway...?

Also what is the reliability said to be like on these? I've yet to jump on the SSD bandwagon but have been looking to sometime soon...
Does anybody know if this will work with XP?

I was going to type a lengthy explanation to how you completely missed the point of my post but then I realised I couldn't be bothered wasting my time...
just received mine via the ebay deal

ordered yesterday
Ebuyer's moronic postage surcharge to my mainland, motorway linked city means the eBay deal is far cheaper for me, cold
does it really need a 2nd post?? or is the OP a heat ****??

It's not a 2nd post, it's a different deal.

Available at a different price and from another website. Stop being rude and ungrateful.
Well if this isn't a cheap way of getting heat, I don't know what is.
SSD = Best general performance upgrade even and especially for older hardware.

Good call.

To be honest I upgraded to a Samsung 830 the other day and the only improvement I've noticed so far is the boot time (or more specifically: the time it takes for Windows to get to a usable state).

I was using a Samsung F3 HD502HJ before, which was a blisteringly fast drive anyway, so maybe that's why my jaw hasn't really dropped.

On a less pokey machine I'd imagine it'd make more of a difference, though.

Agreed.
What would be the difference in boot time with this SSD & a better SSD. For instance if it takes one minute for a normal 7500 HD to boot up how much less with this offer SSD & how much even less with a dearer SSD?
I posted this in the other deal - this is spam imo

Does anybody know if this will work with XP?

they work with xp but the trim feature wont, youll need to google garbage collection or check if kingston have their own solution for xp users

and those that doubt an ssd will be of any benefit, honestly you need to try one as until then you cannot begin to grasp the difference they make, not just to boot times but to everything you click on. read and write arent the only advantages, seek times are just so much quicker
Getting cheaper by the day these

They're having a laugh when they can offer free delivery on the ebay deal. If you live outside the mainland go with the ebay deal and save yourself £8.

Thanks for your response. Yeah having done some reading it seems it will work with XP, but there are issues.

I'm going to be building a new rig and so think I'll have to upgrade to W7 anyway so I'll wait for the Samsung £20 cashback deals in a few days and get one of those. They should include the brackets and cables too, which cost about another £10 on top of the price of this Kingston SSD so it doesn't sound that good a deal to me £ for £. Yes this will still be cheaper, but with cashback not much and from what I've read the Sammy 830's are very reliable and good.

wipe free drive space option in ccleaner may be of some use but not overuse maybe once a month for XP SSD user.
