This is my first thread so please be gentle!!!! As many of you know the price of DDR2 has rocketed recently, searching through i found this ram on the play site, buying 4-GB of this ram will only cost you £52 where as on any other site £70+ is the general price mark. Those wanting a cost effective ram upgrade look no further.

Please make sure you motherboard supports the ram before you purchase it.

just bought 4gb!

cracking price for a known brand.

Seems great, was about to buy some Crucial kit yesterday, but this seems way more attractively priced. Can't find anything below £31 at Crucial for 2G

Heat added! Take it that there's quidco with this as well. '0.5% for PC and electronics sales'

My system shows as this with crucial scan -

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

so I'm guessing that this is compatible. Thanks if anyone knows any better

Cheers

They also have the following for the same price -

Kingston KHX8500D2BK2/2G Hyper X Limited Edition / 2GB / 1066MHz / DDR2 / Dual Channel Kit / Computer Memory play.com/PC/…nre

Is this any better/worse? Thanks

Thanks tonytonytone, that's kind of you to advise on that. Repd

Edit - I misposted, what I thought was a different RAM set. I think I meant to post this play RAM instead, at the same price - play.com/PC/…nre

Great price! ordered some PNY 2gb Pc6400 yesterday from PLay and my card was declined. By the time I sorted it out they had no stock left! This is much better ram for a cheaper price. More overclock, here I come!

Thanks,

als, as said earlier, I was about to buy from crucial, but I don't know if just buying any DDR2 RAM will be compatible. here's what the crucial scan said about my pc -

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

As the posted deal is the better ram, would that work for me please?

equality, you could possibly run this ram on your pc although at the lower setting, more than likely you would encounter the dreaded B.S.O.D, the ram you looked at will run on your pc fine as its supported completely by the motherboard, hope that helps.

Bah if only this was a 2gb stick rather than 2x1gb.

Still hot though! Heat added

Exactly. 2 GB is not much nowadays, and chances are you want to upgrade to 4, 6 or 8 GB soon. Starting with 2x2 GB may be a better choice, if you can afford it.

one of the best deals seen for a long time on here!, well done on first post! i bought 8 gb of this stuff other day costing me £150.00! i could of saved £50.00! gutted

have some heat, if only i wasnt planning to upgrade to ddr3 relatively soon!!!

Our PC says that 'Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*'

Could we use this memory?

No this ram won't work for you. It's PC2-8500 which your board can't take according to what you posted. It's also a 2gb stick and your board can only take 1gb sticks.

This answer also goes for gogboy.

I just wondered if the PC part was backwards compatible.

However this product states - Storage Capacity: 2GB (2 x 1GB) ?

Guys, will this ram work with this ]motherboard?

"Supports DDRII 667/533 non-ECC, un-buffered memory" - that bit makes me think it will not, or would it work but just run it at this speed?

Anyone know if it would actually work on a slower speed or if it would not be compatible at all, also would mixing it with 2 corsair 1GB sticks be a bad idea?

liltman your mobo only supports ram up to 667mhz so this ram isn't compatible, answering your second question yes you can mix different rams speeds although all your ram will run at the lower speeds.

Hmm - could the people who are saying that this RAM won't work on slower motherboards please check their facts? DDR2 RAM is backwards compatible - it will just run at the slower of the two speeds (i.e. the motherboard's RAM speed). Check ]Wikipedia...

its suposed to run aat the lower speed but he higher your speed the more difficult it becomes to run slower and stable, there is no guarantee with memory, its far too fussy!

This dude is wrong.

This RAM will work fine, it has SPD presets for PC5300, PC6400 and PC8500 speeds, so will just run at the highest speed your motherboard supports.

Thanks but you confuse me here, you say it will not support it but then you say I can get different ram speeds but all the ram will run at lower level speeds, you are kind of saying it won't but then it will, or that is how I am reading that as.

Thanks, that really makes me want to buy it, as this is how I thought it would work, I will just be running it at lower speed which is not a problem to me I just want more ram not so much the speed of the ram that interests me at this moment in time, Can I ask have you ever done this before.

I may just go ahead and order and if it don't work, sell it on or wait till I buy a new motherboard.
Thanks for the help.

****** it just bought some, cracking deal, price of ddr2 has gone way up, so this is fantastic price!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good value! I'm planning on upgrading to DDR3 next though so not really for me, definitely hot hot hot though! Good find, OP.

Excellent deal just ordered.

Good deal - Ordered...

Just need a 2GB for my NC10 - Any ideas?

This is exactly how it will work, it is compatible, it will run at the max speed your mobo supports rather than PC8500 speeds its rated at.

I've done this many times and you'll have no problem.

Does this mean just plug and play or do you need so set the memory, also is te clock speed an issue or is that backwards compatible too?

Currently I have 2 x 512 fitted, would I be able to keep this and add this kit or would it be advisable to remove the current memory with it being different spec to this?
