For the 1tb version you get 88GB of SLC cache, writing at 2800MB/s, then it drops to 600MB/s for the next 800GB before dropping again. (edited)

I've got the 2TB version of this drive and the standout feature is that the speeds do not drop when doing large 500GB writes. My Samsung 980 vanilla or ADATA XPG SX8200 couldn't do that when operating in an external caddy.

The Kingston NV2 2TB model writes 500GB without any slowdowns..... (edited)

not the fastest drives but consistently solid which means it wins the performance per pound awards which is what counts. Overall its only its 8% slower than the much more expensive drives in the real world but its one of the cheapest drives

Can someone more knowledgable than myself advise as to whether this would be a good choice for this please?

Hello, I've not seen these Apple adapters before, but having read the specs on the Amazon page it seems like it will work with a PCI-E NVMe SSD. Reading through the customer reviews it does seem like several folks had some glitches with this adapter card depending on which SSD they used. I don't know why the official spec page mentions it doesn't support the Samsung 950 PRO.

Enough info to take a punt, but not enough info to be 100% sure it will work.

Those that can afford higher prices, this is a stonking great 4TB drive for the money -
    amazon.co.uk/add…8-1

Micron 176L TLC, DRAM cache, Phison E18 controller, 7200MB/s read, 6500MB/s write, 5yr warranty.
Can't post it as a deal as the seller (Addlink themselves) don't have 300 ratings.

Biggest negative was the price, but that was then, not now! (edited)

If you're going external save some money and get the Crucial P3 for £25 less -

I'm no fan of QLC NAND drives, but if you're going to get one anyway may as well save some cash.
