I've updated my spreadsheet comparing the entry loft insulation at the 3 diy sheds.

Notes
1. Despite all being made by Knauf they all are seemingly different types, earthwool, ekoroll and space loft roll. I've no idea of the differences and suspect this is something to keep the diy sheds happy and its really the same product. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
2. There are some variances in the length of the rolls, especially the 200mm from Homebase which is quite short so its best to show the cost as per metre squared, which Wickes does by default.
3. All 3 have offers at the moment and in Homebase and B&Q you have to buy multiples whereas Wickes is per roll.

Summary - Price per m2
100mm
Homebase £1.54 Knauf Earthwool Loft Roll - 100mm
B&Q £1.99 Knauf Eko Roll Loft insulation roll, (L)7.28m (W)1.14m (T)100mm
Wickes £2.17 Knauf 100mm Space Bottom Layer Loft Roll Insulation - 8.3m2

170mm
Wickes £2.16 Knauf 170mm Standard Top Up Loft Roll Insulation - 6.47m2
B&Q £2.55 Knauf Eko Roll Loft insulation roll, (L)5.68m (W)1.14m (T)170mm

200mm
Wickes £2.67 Knauf 200mm Super Top Up Loft Roll Insulation - 5.61m2
B&Q £3.00 Knauf Eko Roll Loft insulation roll, (L)4.83m (W)1.14m (T)200mm
Homebase £3.29 Knauf Earthwool Loft Roll - 200mm

Can double the amount of 170mm Top Layer Loft Roll Insulation be used instead of a base layer, or is the composition different?

I can't find any information that suggests that it's any different to the base layer, literally just the depth. I think the base layer is made to go between the joists which are normally about 4", and then you have the 170mm or 200mm to go at a right angle to that laid above the base layer. I laid 3 layers of 100mm while it was on offer as I didn't think they'd do offers on the other depths.

100mm - 8.3m² £12 - £1.44 per m² at 10cm depth (previously on offer)
170mm - 6.47m² £14 - £1.27 per m² at 10cm depth
200mm - 5.61m² £15 - £1.33 per m² at 10cm depth
