About this deal

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Was contemplating over the deal posted a week ago and see that the price has dropped even further to 139.97 from 174 at the last deal.

every other major retailer seems to still be retailing at 249.99

There's supposed to be free next day delivery but the code didn't work for me. Regular ('fast') 3 to 5 day delivery is still free and I'm not that bothered with getting it the next day.

There is a power cover to support battery but this has to be purchased separately.

Decent price but I believe the Kobo Sage has problems with how long the battery lasts.
Libra 2 with a 7" screen has a 1500 m/ah battery whereas the Sage has 1200 for a bigger 8" screen. Maybe this is why Currys are lowering the price.
But if you want a 8" screen and can live with battery then good deal.
Congrats Roboto for 1st deal posted

While it sounds disappointing, it should still last enough for most people and charges quickly. You're still right to mention it though.

How is the book selection compared to Kidle?

Decisions, Decisions . This or the Libra 2 which is a smaller pocket friendly size. Very good price - some entertainers on fleabay still selling at over £150 used.

i upgraded from the kobo aura h20, which iirc is the same screen size as the libra 2. while i love having the larger screen on the sage and not having to flip pages quite as often, i can't honestly say it's made a massive difference to my reading. the higher resolution definitely did, though, as did the much improved backlight. imo, you'd be more than happy with either device, especially if the sage's note taking side isn't of any interest to you. if the slightly bigger size of the sage doesn't bother you, i'd say get the sage, but if you want something a touch smaller with a slightly better battery life as a result, get the libra 2.

I have one and feel that the battery lasts a good length. Charge it once a week, probably use it for about 5-6 hours a week, including making notes with the pen and with night light too (although not all the time).

Ooh, I have a new kindle Paperwhite which I love. I’ve been considering getting a Kobo so I can use the library to read instead of buying e-books. However, the selection doesn’t seem amazing on the Libby app.
How’s the book prices otherwise? How do I even buy books?

Sorry, am a complete newbie to Kobo, I’ve only ever used Kindle - would appreciate some advice

You can purchase books from kobo.com/
I think the selection and price is comparable to Amazon for big / established publishers

As someone who's always managed to avoid going down the ereader route, any suggestions for a basic, entry level one? I'd happily go the used route to keep costs down.

I'd only use it when travelling and then, mainly on the beach. That's why I've always gone with cheap paperbacks - I can leave them on my towel and go for a dip or a wander down the beach and no one's bothered. I never take my phone with me or anything valuable, so I'd like something as cheap as possible to start with. I won't be using it on a night, only in bright daylight.

    Cheers

Any kindle at all will serve you fine. Just the cheapest one you can get.

Can these be 'jailbroken' to add better firmware or is the kobo stuff ok? I used to love my old kindle but the newer ones are that bloated I never got along with them.

Yep, checkout the MobileRead forum for the latest. KOReader is my fave.

Camera on an ereader? Bit odd
