This originally retailed at £499 and is still at Argos for £449.95 - closest price I could find was Amazon Germany for £192

Some key features:-
  • Unlocked & SIM Free
  • 4G
  • 21MP Camera with 4K video recording
  • 5" HD Gorilla Glass screen
  • Helio X20 processor + 3GB of RAM
  • Android 6.0
  • 32GB Storage + 256B micro SD card slot
  • NFC
  • USB-C

I've read also that they've recently updated the software to get more out of the camera and the 3GB RAM but I'm due to get mine tomorrow so will see then (paid extra for next day delivery but standard is free) however for that spec (4G, NFC, 5", 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM) under £200 this is a lot of phone!

Who makes this? Surely the brand is licensed.

First review on Google has the summary "Kodak should never have made this phone".

Avoid at all costs! Poor processor, average camera and you will hate walking around with it in your pocket due to the awkward shape.

The idea is a natural evolution of cameras though. Camera over phone.

How in the world is the Helios x20 a poor processor? Its relative to the software and updates. I definitely don't have issues on my phone with it.

The reviews aren't convincing

They bollocksed it up making cameras in the end, would you trust them with Smartphones?

This is supposed to be an awful phone. From reviews the main criticisms seem to be that it feels plasticky - being entirely plastic (!) with fake chamfered aluminium sides. The phone is massive for its screen size - with huge bezels top and bottom and the camera is a complete joke in anything but bright light. The overall speed is apparently decent enough though, and the screen is ok.

Basically this isn’t going to get any updates ever again either.

I will caveat this with the fact that I haven’t had a hands-on with the device and can only go on the reviews I watched and read many months back, so I’m happy to admit that I could have misjudged this and it could be an absolute barnstormer that was unfairly critiqued by almost everyone who reviewed it. This phone isn’t made by Kodak in any real sense though - the design was evidently farmed out to an OEM and built in China based on a drawing someone at Kodak drew on a napkin. The only true contribution they seem to have made is the bundled imaging software; although the powers that be at Kodak don’t seem to have actually tested the camera itself - which would explain why literally every review I watched and read said that it was basically a turd.

For the money though I’d be looking at the G5 Plus for around the same price as it looks to surpass this in every way - including the likelihood of getting Oreo.

It would still be too expensive at £89.97. Who on earth designed this thing and who on earth makes it. Not Kodak....they are long gone.

Got one, for the money it's amazing much better than my previous phone, it's fast, light and even I can take great photos ... Well worth it in my opinion!

2TB micro SD card slot? Is that even a thing?

Would this be any better than the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom I'm currently using? I was looking at the Moto Z with the Hasselblad camera mod, but it seems very badly-designed and gets terrible reviews. This looks a bit more pocketable at least

SDXC so yes it's a thing but obviously there's no cards that capacity yet but the standard is there regardless.

It appears it's actually a 256GB slot now I have it, I'm not complaining still...in regards to the comparison with the K Zoom, this is a lot slimmer, I haven't ever used the K Zoom's camera but I'm super impressed with this Kodak, and can even delve deeper with the full manual mode which I'll be messing around with

This KoJack should be 50 squid

The camera sensor is nothing special; for a supposed camera centric phone I would have expected a lot more. Has it even received nougat? I doubt it will see Oreo though.
