Kodak made a phone?! Heat just for That!

Nope kodak licensed their name to a really cheap chinese manufacturers phone
as a phone its really bad , its main selling point is the supposed high quality camera that actually isn't all that impressive or good either
saying that for price it might be a good phone to take when you dont want to risk a decent camera or phone when you go somewhere

Think that's a bit harsh at this price point. I use it as my daily driver after discovering it had a better battery life, and significantly faster performance than my note 4. I'll agree that somewhat ironically, the camera is shit.

imho this is a decent backup/spare phone. Has the usual goodies headphone jack, decent screen, decent battery life, quite nice to hold due to its odd design etc. Other than the camera, you want to be aware the OS is pretty out of date (Android 5?) and I doubt will see an upgrade - that may or may not bother you

[edit]

Just to put this into perspective, this was supposed to be a flag ship phone competing in the same bracket as the Samsung S7/8. Obviously it failed as a concept, so you can pick it up on the cheap.

Really bad or just average?

This is a review when it was priced at £500. notebookcheck.net/Kodak-Ektra-Review

At £100 it seems like a bargain.

I did say it was a good back up phone for price, but as for the rest I honestly never saw a good review for it as a phone ever. My main gripe is the selling point is the camera but the phone itself lets that side of it down especially the screen brightness thats really dim imo.

but we agree its a good backup/ cheap and cheerful phone , personally id spend a bit more and [ick up a moto g4plus if you want decent battery good camera for not much bucks
Processor and ram sounds great for the price!
That is a lot of smart phone for that price. Can't think of anything else with this spec for this money
A mid to high end Helio X20 CPU, 1080p screen, 4K recording , 32GB and 3GB Ram.

Camera looks OK too. The only downside is Android 6. Kodak put some work into this so it looks an original quirky item with a blazingly fast CPU. Not worth the original price but for £100 its very hard to better.

Hmmm looks like tehre are no software updates available so it'll be stuck on an old/vulnerably version of Android forever.

The last update was in May 2017 and the 2nd pic shows someone with an iPhone in their pocket lol

So tempted by this. wanted one when they were first out but they were £450! Not sure if these are still being updated though?

To be honest this does not bother me. Like with old smart tvs, companies never update old ones as want you to upgrade. Google is upgrading google services and most of the planet will be on old software so what will be will be. .

Been this price for months now
Appliances Direct often have amazing hidden gems like this and the Aether Cone.

I can’t see the issue here, a pretty well specced phone for £100? What is not to like? Especially where it’s a bit different. As someone else said, Android 6 is fine, in fact Android 5 is still usable as is 4.4, some things might not work but majority is fine - I picked up a Nexus 4 the other day and really didn’t feel like it was that far behind. I guess that’s what lack of innovation in the smartphone space does...

It supports 4G, I don’t think it can have another meaning for this kind of product.

Serious question. Why does Android 6 make much difference? I just put the Nova launcher on top of it and then they all look the same.
Kodak ain't what it used to be. they filed for Chapter 11 in the US in 2012. The rights to the various products sold under the brand name have been flogged to multiple organisations. This particular phone is actually made by the Bullitt group.

Still, not a bad price at all for the specs you get but please don't buy it for the camera - it won't compare to a flagship.Heated.

is the Aether Cone any good?

As a £300 speaker probably not, as a £35 speaker that is beautifully built with sound quality to match, resoundingly, yes it is. I think people avoid it because they don’t like the idea of using something with partially reduced functionality (RDIO defunct) and no ongoing support but in reality, it’s a speaker and it works well.

Certainly the best £100 camera phone. Here is an honest review on the current pricing:
Bargain for £100 even better if you can get it for €100 from Germany.

it is an interesting photo' comparison, how the photographer has adjusted the angle of the shoot from over exposed on the kodak (looking up and into the light) to looking down with the apple (allowing the camera to correctly expose the image). it does make it hard to see a real comparison when these little niggles prevent one from seeing what the camera is really capable of.

Took me a couple of hours to download all the updates when I set this phone up for a neighbour.Mostly camera improvements.
They are very happy with it apart from no useable / practical case being available for it. Official case is a monstrocity.Best avoided.Worth £100 IMO but this so called flagship cannot block spam calls or text yet a £5 phone from o2 can. Postage to Northern Ireland is £10 extra.

I don't know if anyone answered this already so I will.
There are 2 downsides to being stuck on an old version of android,
as new apps are released the chance of your phone being compatible goes down, but the main drawback is the security patches, without those being regularly updated you are vulnerable to any bugs in your operating system.
Just Google android vulnerabilities, Google are constantly patching them to keep hackers at bay.

Marshmallow will be supported for quite awhile though, right?

I have android 6 on the Blackberry Dtek60, all my apps work fine and most likely will for several years. The android OS may not be getting an update but the security patches are bang up to date, I got Feb 18 patch 10 days ago, I never got a single security patch on my Huawei P10 Plus.(Android 7.1)
