This is a great camcorder. Light, small and very versitile. I have this one, a Zi6 and the ZX1 and the video they take is superb, I'd say for clarity, it's on par with my Panasonic SD1, which cost over 3x the price of this. Sound quality is good but does suffer a tad on windy days, but most camcorders do. The only thing that you could say lets it down is the zoom.

Fir the money, this is the camera I would pick if you just want something to take to the beach or around the pool while on your holidays. The low light shots are supposed to be far better on this than on the Flip, according to lots of reviews.

Hope this helps anyone.

I've got my eye on either one of these, the new Toshiba BW10 or the Fuji XP10. They are all around this price, just waiting for one of them to drop below the £100 mark as I don't need until my hols in November.

Be careful with these though, they suffer from a severe low light glitch where white dots display all over the footage. Sent 2 back over the past 2 weeks and now buyacamera refuse to replace me with any more coz its costing them return postage each time. Raised the issue with Kodak who are more than aware of the fault.

Google 'playsport white dot' to see the write ups and also look at youtube footage. TBH i couldnt live with the footage my 2 took when viewing on a 50" plasma. It looked awful and i was drawn to it ever time i watched.

hmmm... I am really considering one of these at the moment. Will be off to america swimming with dolphins and a bit of snorkeling and thought this may be worth a crack for just over 100quid.

still worried about very mixed reviews and the chance of water killing it at some point.....

Im going to turkey next week manc and need one. TBH after the bad times ive had with the playsport im going to go for the Toshiba as mentioned above. Just reading the reviews now and looks good. Seen some demo footage and now white dot issues. It doesnt do 60fps but hey if its working with no probs id be happy. So im going to take the plunge, no pun intended, and order the Tosh tomorrow in time for next week.

iv also got one of these and im more than happy with the qualit, the 1080 is very impressive for a tine hand held camcorder. Bought for a snorkeling trip to Egypt in September, I cant wait to test it in the sea!

I got mine from Simply electronics mainly because they take Paypal

Thanks for the info. Does the toshiba offer Image stabilising? I am struggling to find specs or reviews online.... Only thing i can find says that the toshiba needs to be charged via USB only?? would be good to see some comparisons.
arghh! the confusion and decisions......!!!

Got one of these from kodak with the 25% off (was 85odd after cashback - but still worth this price) - took it round the parks in Florida was class on the water rides :-)

There is some "shimmer" in 1080p on fast movement, but isn't there in 720p... oh it also has high speed 60fps mode which can be useful.

Mine did leak water after I got sand under the seal (my fault) - but dried it out and it's working fine again... I definitely would recommend it for robustness and pic/video quality.

waiting for these to drop below £100 then very tempted to have one, i ordered one of the flips on here a while back but the shake on it was awful so it went straight back, looking at the reviews the kodak dont suffer the same problem. heat added but holding on a while longer!!

You're not going to find any mini camcorders in this range that offer optical image stabilisation. I'm pretty sure the kodak offers electronic stabilisation; how good that is in real life situations may be debatable. The toshiba was only out the other month, so that explains the lack of proper reviews. If optical IS is important to you, I think some sub £150 panasonic/canon compact cameras offer optical IS with 720p video.

I think this is the best camera in the range; seems to beat the flip ultra hd, which is it's main competitor: youtube.com/wat…d=1

Good Camcorder, great at waterparks and wet water rides. One bad thing is the sound isn't great, especially when it gets wet. I shot 3 hours at 720 60fps in Florida a couple of months ago. Great quality, just have to edit some music when the sound goes poor. Used my Sony TG7 for dry stuff and picture quality is comparable. Good back up HD with the bonus of being waterproof. A 4GB class 6 sd card will give about 45 mins of Video. Also produces good quality stills, just printed 200 6"x4" photos and they look excellent. I guess prices are falling as phones now shoot HD

Your very tempted to buy one but you'll hold out for the sake of £8.00??? I dont get some people.

Was going to get a playsport for my kids when we go on holiday but all the youtube videos made the colour look muted. Decided to wait for the toshiba bw10 after seeing their samples on youtube, but now that it has been released the videos look awful - never seen so much shake on a video and the rolling shutter effect looks awful. At this price I think its time to look again at the playsport.
Shame panasonic dont make a little waterproof pocket camera like this.

Bought one when they first came out. Used snorkelling in Egypt. Superb underwater footage and great stills. Only drawback is in common with all the other cameras that dont have a viewfinder, the glare makes it difficult to see the LCD screen. Bring back the viewfinder!!!!!.

I was gutted about missing the flip ultra HD £50 coupon. So this looks like it'll make a great present for the missus' upcoming Birthday instead.

Looking at that youtube comparison posted by yos2008, yes it's clearly better than the flip for outdoor use, but the low/medium light performance is a real shame. In the comments, the youtube poster mentioned he didn't have much time to play with settings. Does anybody know if this can do better indoor video with setting adjustments?

By the looks of the sample videos, all the medium light detail is clear enough - just too dark. It could probably be lightened to match the flip just fine with post processing, but if the missus is going to use it, this process needs to be automagic.

My decision to buy rests on this really. It could film a billion pixels, but if they're darker than her cheapo phone films them, this present will be a bit pointless.

TBH joe theres not really a lot of settings in its menu to adjust recording properties. Low level light/indoor shots on the 2 i had was pretty poor... but i must admit normal light and outdoors was v good. As i say the only downside to indoor filming was the various white artifacts present on footage after it was shot.

Still waiting for Kodak techies to answer me back on that one though ;-)

Thanks Squelds. Also, do you know, is this one identical to the kodak zi8 (currently £104 at amazon), only more durable?

I'm still very tempted to buy. I've been looking around and have now confused myself by the large range and choice. Is this really much better than the cheapy this one ?

Potential huge price drops like that make me lose a lot of confidence.

...The creative vado seems good with 2nd generation models on amazon for around £50-£60 and 3rd generation at a little over £100.

The kodak zi8 has the exact same camera, so technically the video should be identical. Both have 720p/1080p video filming. The Zi8 has an additional macro mode (to focus on things close up, like flowers, unboxing videos, etc). Both have a mono microphone (at that size, you wouldn't be able to make out stereo anyway...), but the Zi8 has an option to plug in an external microphone (I guess useful for interviews, etc). The playsport's advantages are: it's waterproof, better built to withstand the odd knock, and it's slightly smaller in dimensions.

The Kodak Zx1 is the older version of the series. It runs on AA batteries, and doesn't have a 1080p mode. I wouldn't worry about the price, but it's said to have trouble with lower light situations. A quick comparison:

Like yos says. The main advantage of the Playsport is that its waterproof so just what i need for my hols. I must admit joe that the outside footage of the Playsport was brill. My kids also had great fun with it... and i wasnt afraid to let them use it as the other cam i have is a Panasonic SD60, and theres no way theyre getting their hands on that lol. If it wasnt for the glitchy white spots i would highly recommend this cam... but perhaps youll be lucky and it will not suffer from it. It seems to be pot luck... out of the 45 reviews on amazon a couple of peeps have sent theirs back due to this, but some have said the replacement worked fine. So dont get me wrong this is a great camera... and the choice is yours tbh depending on what you need it for. My needs are for around and in the pool on holiday... so the waterproof housing was what made up my mind.

Got one of these for a Center Parcs holiday and it was great - under water usage is very good - OK so you cannot shoot a full length feature film on it but for price its a great little cam - m2c

One other option with this camera is pay extra - £116 for camera and £29.99 for warranty and buy from comet with 3yr exchange policy. Any leakage, white dots or other faults and the camera is exchanged there and then....
I still just know whatever camera i buy will flood on the first outing!!!

£115.40 Now, good while it lasted.

Well i caved in after reading about the tosh and went for another playsport through amazon. Will let u guys know how i get on after THOROUGHLY tested it for any defects be it white dots, leakage or overheating. One thing to note about the new one ive got is that the contents is different to what you get from buyacamera. Theres no independant chager that you just slot the battery into, instead with this one you have to put the battery in the cam and charge from there. Bit of a pain coz i purchaed a spare battery for £6.99... BUT im hoping thats coz its a new batch and that the old batches like buyacamera sold we the dodgy ones. Still havent had a logical response from kodak, had a cal today from... get this.. a SENIOR technician and guess what he said... try firmware update and buy a faster memory card. UMM.. im using a class 10 and the firmware is the latest 1.03 on every unit ive had. So sounds like kodak really know their stuff NOT !!

Good look Squelds! would be good to hear how you get on.... can you PM me your results!? I am not off on holiday for another couple of months, so will hold out on the purchase as long as possible.

Just checked this one and no less that 4 white spots. Strange thing is on the last 2 cams i had from buyacamera when i first powered on it immediately asked me to set the date, this one did not. The celophane wrapping was all as should and the cam had no obviously marks on it... but im sure a brand brand new one asks for the date as set out in the manual.

So huff huff will be phoning amazon in the morning to get a replacement before monday :-(

Here we go again lol !
