It does need a memory card, and a fast one too, I think it is the 6 that is recommended.

They are fine for fun shoots, not for doing a wedding. If this is what you need, it is an excellent price indeed.

How much am I looking to pay for a larger memory card which is suitable? It accepts upto 36gb.

I bought this camera a month ago from Amazon for £48, I also got a Integral 8GB Ultima Pro SD Card (SDHC) - Class 6 for another £15 from mymemory.co.uk.

yes great for a pocket vc - i look at images of garden home and use to design etc

Max size this takes is 32GB SD card.
I've purchased a 16GB Class 4 SD card for this and works perfectly. Got it from Amazon for around £18 (make is Bytestor)

Around 2.5 to 3 hours on HD 60 setting (best quality setting)

From the other thread on this camera
User called Banzai on post #34:
Kodak site says "Record approximately 20 minutes per 1GB at HD 30fps".
That works out around:
4GB ~ 80mins
8GB ~ 160mins
16GB ~ 320mins

Plenty of footage to view on Youtube... as with ALL these cameras, it is appalling in low light (for low light, that means indoors at all, even if you have lighting like a football stadium!) so hopeless for those family functions, friends, kids & pets "moments." Which is 98% of the reason I want a video camera for!

But, so are cameras costing 3 times the price, so at least its cheap crap as opposed to being expensive crap, and for that reason has to be hot! Just don't expect too much.

Improve the audio and a few other things by updating the software.

Link to Kodak website which has full instructions: wwwuk.kodak.com/glo…272

Basically, you download version 1.06 driver to your PC and copy it to the place it tells you on the SD Card. Once you put the SD card back in the ZX1 it auto updates the bios. Don't forget to delete the file off of your SD card when all done to free up the space.

Main Tip: make sure your batteries have enough charge, so it doesn't lose power part way through the update.

Good luck.

Make sure you all update the firmware as soon as you get it. The audio was terrible on mine before I did the update (high pitched whine in the background). The update fixed it.

To those worried about peoples reviews claiming poor audio - don't be. The audio is absolutely fine after the firmware update. Sure, it's not stereo and overly sensitive but for it's purpose it's great.

This is a good deal for the price, Got mine from the amazon deal a few weeks ago + the free case, ..we use the HD30 setting which is fine, ...Batts last about 2 hr...But we only use a 4 gb sd card, this works for me ok...
The worst bit is getting it onto face book or youtube, ..It takes ages, about 30 min to load a 2 min video ?

I had a Kodak Zi6 - lovely camera, great quality, awful battery life. Spent £11.99 on super-dooper batteries which only lasted a few hours.

It's great if you're shooting stuff for Youtube at home, ie music videos, but otherwise I'd hang around for one with a better included battery.

stephen 6649 iam having trouble trying to put the firmware in idownloaded the exe file ok then unzipped it to anew folder on my desktop then put sd card in my reader and sent it to it put it back in the zx1 but nothing seems to happen i wonder if someone can tell me what iam doing wrong thanks

i got this last time it was £50 at pc world - great item, well worth it, i use it to take little clips on days out to theme parks with my daughter

I notice on most of the you tube there is loads of wobble or is that just a you tube thing ?

There's no image stabilisation so you really need a steady hand to minimise the wobble. I find I can only do this if I hold it with two hands. However, for the price I think it's fantastic bit of kit.

Many thanks to Macdory for the tip to update firmware - camera just arrived today - I wouldn't have thought to do that

Hi, i've sent you a PM, but incase someone else is having problems - you need to ensure that the file is in exactly the place as detailed on the Kodak website (create the folder if it isn;t already there). When it is in the right place, and you insert the card into the camera and turn it on, it will immediately begin the update process - you won;t need to press anything to start it.

This is a good camera. No image stabilisation, so hold it very steady. It is also poor indoors. However, for outdoor shots, on hols etc as long as you hold it steady the picture quality is very good indeed. It was a Stuff Mag best buy and at this price is silly money.

A couple of points:

1) As stated, you MUST update the firmware, otherwise it has a horrendous high pitched whine on the sound. With updated firmware it goes away, albeit not the first time you use it after updating, but the second time for some bizarre reason?

2) With the new firmware, the sound recording is surprising good.

3) It does eat batteries at the HD60 setting.

4) It does not need a class 6 or 8 card- mine is just a standard one.

5) Editing the HD60 images on a PC is a bitch. The only thing I found which could do it well and reliably (and make AVCHD movies to record onto a standard DVD but play back in high def if you have a compatible Blu Ray player) was Powerdirector 8. And believe me, I tried everything. Powerdirector is almost an essential purchase in my opinion if you have this camera, although make sure you update that too if you get it because it is extremely buggy and does not make smooth movies as sold, but with the latest update is as stable as hell and absolutely superb.

can any1 recommend a cheapish pocket camcorder with image stabilisation

Great deal. Just the sort of thing I've been looking for. Ordered and confirmed. Heat and rep added. Thanks.

I am very tempted by this but having image stabilisation is almost a must for these pocket cameras.

The Kodak Zi8 keeps drawing my attention but just wish it would come down to around £80

Thanks for this - missed out on Amazon deal so pleased to have found this - REP added and heat
