Surely this isn't a great idea to cross Microsoft and their policies with Kodi which is so grey in regards to it's legal uses.I mean I was an early Kodi adoptee myself but the risk now involved with them and such, isn't worth the hassle yet alone getting banned if Microsoft turn around and see an infraction.

It's a media player.
That's perfectly legal.
I'm going to start posting other free Xbox apps soon.....

Not for the app itself, certainly not.

Some people sell dodgy dvd's in public places, but your DVD/blu ray player itself would not be illegal in any way just because it can play those discs - it's just a player.

I do appreciate that some people may use it for questionable purposes, but the app is not to blame.

It’s fine, really. It’s an approved app on the Microsoft Store.

Kodi is a free legal media player, the 3rd party addons allow it to stream usually paid for content.

Kodi it legal, the worked with Microsoft to do this, they also work with Google on their Summer of Code project annually, it's well respected opensource software, there are no risks or legal issues.

Its perfectly legal, its a media player. If you want to do illegal stuff with it,then thats your problem !!!!
kraigisonfire1 h, 9 m ago

Legality on this sort of stuff is super sketchy at the best of times,

From their own web-page: The official Kodi version does not contain any content whatsoever. This means that you should provide your own content from a local or remote storage location, DVD, Blu-Ray or any other media carrier that you own. Additionally Kodi allows you to install third-party plugins that may provide access to content that is freely available on the official content provider website. The watching or listening of illegal or pirated content which would otherwise need to be paid for is not endorsed or approved by Team Kodi.

Doesn't mean you will get banned or arrested
You won't
No one ever has,. They can't find out, its not illegal to stream "pirate" movies, millions of people do it, they've never and probably will never arrest someone for streaming, they can't even find out I think

However what is illegal Is providing these services such as developing the add one and charging people.for this stuff

It just says they don't approve of it to cover their asses
Kodi can't and won't ban people since that's suicide, they'll lose 99% of users

Yeah, that's not really proving the point you think it is lol. XBMC was homebrew that ran on modded (hacked) XBox consoles capable of running unsigned code.

That said, KODI is completely legit as people have said, it's just a media player.

Thanks for the post OP :-)
Pity alluc has stopped. Best streaming site on the internet for years.
The Kodi team are also working towards Kodi using DRM to allow protected content to be streamed without worry and fuss.
Why the heck is this posted on a dealsite?

Indeed, always makes me smile when you get the preachers who like to overlook the number one use of XBMC by far was to play hooky ripped Xbox games.

I seen two case's, one bloke was streaming live football in a pub illegally and other was selling hundreds of preloaded devices. Never seen a single case where someone would be prosecuted for watching at home by himself or something along the lines.
How's the retro player? Is it fully integrated now or just launch a retroplayer app

Two guys got fined recently, two seperate sellers on Ebay, selling the preloaded boxes, was quite a hefty fine if I remember!!!
They can know what your streaming, thats how your ISP blocks some content especially the sports, reason why alot of people use VPN to stop them knowing

Stops them knowing exactly what you're doing but at the same time you're announcing you're doing something you want to hide. To be fair there are people who use them just to be private but they are a tiny minority.

Why though lol...

Developing add ons isn’t illegal , it comes down to its intended use

Yes that's what i mean.
I'm saying if you're the Devs of Genius/Exodus/Specto/whatever add-on then that's illegal "I think" since their intention is to host sources for "free" movies and TV shows

I said "the add ons" as in the add ons for "pirated" movies
