very good

This brand used to be one of the best, looks like it has cheapened itself a little (purely going on the price of this bike), you used to pay about £700 for the cheapest bike they did at one time. Still lokos a decent spec for £200.

That's not true, I can remember buying my mrs the Kona Hahanna about 10-12yrs ago, it's RRP was £329. They've always done everything from entry level up to £4k downhill beasts.

That's the thing - it is still one of the best and this is a great price for what it is - an entry level bike. Spend £200 on this & if you want to sell it, you'll get £100 back. Can't do that at Halfords!

18 years ago I paid £350 for a hahanna , my first proper mtb

Best bike on here for ages, great value for £200, especially with the range of sizes.

What size would you recommend for someone who is 5ft 4"?

Thanks,

Sorry thats the only ones i have, think they came from the Kona website.

im 5ft and would look at 13.5 to 14 inch, reckon 16 inch would be fine, but if you google bike sizes you should get what you need.

Depending on inside leg I would say either 14" or 16"

Kona are one of the best frame makers ,besides rocky mountain.

Bought one last year, chain broke after 5 miles - buy a good strong chain if buying this. Also components are exactly the same on raleigh I bought for £120 so not such a great deal really.

tempted - very tempted. Looking at this or the Specialized Hardrock ... at 300 quid a lot dearer but I'm thinking that this one is the ideal one for someone getting back into biking.

Personally I find the geometry of Kona's hardtails a lot comfier than Specialized and they're easier to chuck down the rough stuff. But of course everyone is different, a frame that suits someone else's riding style might be worse for the another person.

Surely leg length is more important than overall height???

I have had ,my lanai for over 3 years (2009 model) ive done london to brighton on it twice and hundreds of canal towpath miles - it carries my 17 stone with ease and with an annual service is like new - unbelievable value and quality componenets throughout - my brother has the 2011 model and I would buy another one tomorrow. hope it helps

Does anyone know if you can get this in a chain reaction store for the same price?

Heat. Excellent price for this bike. Kona make really good bikes. My son has the L'anai deluxe 2011, and I have a Kona Kula 2009, and are both really pleased with them. There are some other great prices there too, esp the Kona Blast 2011 (all sizes) for £400.

I should have posted this earlier as I have had my eye on this for some time. I took the plunge with the discount code on Sunday evening. Also worth noting that I got about £6 quidco as well.

Not received the bike just yet but to be honest, I wanted something half decent and I am expecting to get that. Everyone has ups and downs with products but I think this will be great for someone like myself that wants to use it to get a bit fitter and to enjoy a bit of the countryside around me. And if I end up being a bike nut afterwards brilliant. But if I dont I didnt break the bank to have an expensive white elephant in the shed!

Cheers

Corrected that for you as you've obviously never seen a proper hand-made frame.

Is this a men's bike ?

In theory yes, but the low top tube of Kona's frame make them fine for both men and women, in fact most women/girls I know that mountain bike would never consider buying a female specific bike.

Is this a men's bike ?

No not just for men! Dont ever be tempted to buy a womens bike if your thinking of going near rough terrain.

Jammygal

Is this a men's bike ?

No such thing.

There's bikes and then there are bikes classed as 'Women Specific Bikes'.

Women just need a different saddle because their pelvis is flatter the rest is fine.

Hi, I'm looking for a new bike for my 8 year old. He's about 135cm tall. Would the smallest one (14") be ok or would it be too big?

If it is too big, can anyone recommend a decent bike for an 8 year old. He loves BMX but I'd be tempted to get him one of these if they are far superior

Thanks for you replies .....I am mulling it over ATM !

I think it would be a bit big for him.

I'm looking to buy a mountain bike to ride through country a couple of times a week, I was looking at this bike but then I noticed another one on the same site:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=71849

I don't know much about bikes, can someone tell me if this Corratec bike is much better and worth paying the extra £50. also the only size they have available is 54cm, I'm 6' 1", so would the bike be too big for me?

Thanks for any advice

Oh yes, I might have to have one of these!

I'm 6' 1", will the 20" accommodate me? I notice the chart says ok, but was wondering about others opinions.

Would 18" for a 5'10" man with longish legs seem about right?

If he's into BMX then he would prefer a BMX as it is designed for doing tricks....a mountain bike is for riding over rough terrain.

But If you insist on getting him a MTB then at 8 I'd think he wants a 20 inch wheel

Looking for a cheapish bike around this price point to get me to work and back (3 miles each way on the road) that I can also take out into the country for the odd weekend for a casual ride. I'm 6'3" so looking at the 20" model. Any advice on whether this is the right sort of thing or should I be looking for something else - I want to stay around this price point if possible but could stretch to £350

Cheers for posting, Adidas Addict.

Great bike great price. when i was looking for an entry level bike to get me started this time last year i ended up paying a bit more for a Specialized hardrock with disc brakes. Similar standard of bikes and i've since become a nut for mountain biking being so close to the trails of Nant yr Arian by Aberystwyth. Such a difference in quality between an entry model of a quality brand like Kona and a similar priced Halfords effort. I've really put mine about and its stood up to it brilliantly

wanted to get one of these for the missus, but apparently it's the wrong shade of blue.

sheesh!!!

Is that one £100 better than the Rockrider here? http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-50-men-id_8160220.html
or £50 better than this one with front susp? decathlon.co.uk/roc…tml
