Interesting. A question I asked about the process has been deleted!

Edit: Now reinstated!

What is done (or isn't done) to make it Kosher?

It is simply certified kosher, meaning it has been supervised and watched to make sure all ingredients and procedures were done correctly in accordance with the Jewish law.

Hi @Gollywood,

I can see that you deleted the previous comment yourself.
If you'd like it reinstated and are struggling to do this yourself, just let me know

Thanks,
That's interesting - out of interest, what wine process might potentially contravene Jewish law?

I accidentally deleted. It was the follow up wanted to deleted.

No idea why such a harmless post has to be moderated

No problem, cheers.

And sometimes certain words trigger the moderation filter - it can be a totally innocent word, containing what looks like an expletive (local deals posted within Scunthorpe get flagged a lot ).

But it drops into a backoffice screen for us to review, to anything that needs releasing it usually done pretty instantaneously.
it must be made by a Jew from start to finish. (That’s basic, there is a lot of ins and outs)

The nicest bottle of wine you’ll find for £4.50 in my opinion...not recommended if you are well into your wine
What is a 'Kosher Friend'?!

We're not

From the posts that have appeared in our moderation queue, I'm guessing the word 'kosher' is flag word.

So any posts containing that word get manually reviewed.

The list is exhaustive, so it might just be a case of having it removed (which I'll speak to site Admin about).

I see, as a Jew, I never thought Ko**er would be a word needing monitoring...guess this comment will be monitored cause I wrote Jew?

It seems that the word Jew is fine!

We do definitely need a purge of the terms on the flag list, but it's an action we have as a team at this end.

I just wanted to reassure that nothing untoward is going on - just a term that currently flags manual moderation checks.
Kosher is certification allowing Jews to consume the product. Why would it be something that gets flagged and manually reviewed?

I don't know - there unfortunately isn't a list of reasons as to why certain words are moderated.

It may have been a previous misuse or abuse of the word which warranted monitoring.

But the answer to the original question is that this word currently flags for manual moderation (hence why certain posts drop into moderation).
So, I believe this is probably suitable for vegetarians too because there shouldn't be animal products used.
Always a grey area for me, unless it clearly says 'vegan/veggie' on the label.

Not sure why there would ever be animal products used in wine?? I would steer away from any wine with animal anything in it personally...

For the grapes to be kosher they can’t have had any insect holes etc and need to be inspected by someone in authority and Orthodox Jews will only consume food made my a Jew. I think that’s it

That’s close, however Jews will eat food made by non Jews as well, however they have to understand the laws of Kashrus and therefore usually require a Jew who knows the laws to supervise or assist in the making of food and wine etc.

Some wines have milk and or egg in them. Some are refined with fish bladders or egg white.
