The light-weight stereophones with modern design and excellent audio characteristics are ideal for all kinds of MP3 players - including your favorite iPod! Those who try Koss headphones for the first time are surprised just how close their sound is to what normally only comes out of much more expensive closed studio headphones - doubly so since the open design is generally regarded as inferior to closed headphones. * The Porta Pro features dynamic elements that deliver exceptionally rich, deep bass and a remarkably wide frequency response from 15-25,000 Hz to capture every nuance in your favorite movie or musical performance
* Constructed from mylar, the elements are extremely rigid, minimizing mechanical distortion and ensuring exceedingly accurate sound reproduction
* Neodymium iron boron rare earth magnet structures enable the Porta Pro to deliver greater volume so you can hear every note, even when competing against the sounds of a commuter train with a low-voltage MP3 or disc player
* Oxygen free copper voice coils improve signal transmission and conduction for cleaner, clearer sound
* Foam earcushions provide an open, hear-through sound that lets you keep in touch with your surroundings perfect to wear while running, at work, or while traveling

Great headphones these! I got them at this price a while back from Amazon but they sell out quickly and stay out of stock for a while unless you pay more to a Marketplace Seller so buy these now!

Amazing sound quality,
Rubbish build quality.

Great headphones for sitting around the house in. Do anything else with them and they'll fall to bits.

Like every other headset then? :P

been this price for months - had them in basket and they haven't moved more than a couple of times in that period unlike the px100 which have gone up and down every day for weeks then went up 12quid and stayed there in the end.

rubisco - did you try getting a replacement? heard many stories online where people still lovingly use their original 10 year old headphones.

These are really good headphones - I've got two of these (one for home, one for the office) and haven't come across the build problems reported above

Good job they have a lifetime warranty then.

i couldnt stand to have something so ugly on my head!

OK, i've owned these headphones for a year or two and i'm very pleased with them:

Pros
* Best sound quality from any stereophone i've ever owned by a huge margin.
* Looks (depending on your taste).
* Size/portability - rolls into a nice ball and slip into a protective case (supplied).
* Comfort - the (adjustable) pads on the size distribute pressure more evenly across your head - the one downside to this is they tend to snap back to the default setting quite easily.
* Build quality - i have to disagree with the other comments, i've used mine daily for a few years and only now is a loose connection starting to develop in the right phone. I've gone through about 4 sets of Senny's in the same period.

Cons
* Leak sound in and out pretty bad.
* When folded the phones hook together - this hook is positioned just above one of your ears when worn and can irritate.
* The cord is quite stiff and can be a pain to took loosely into your clothes.
* The adjustable band snaps back into the smallest position when you remove the headphones. Re-adjusting is easy but requires two hands so if i take them off when walking my dog i have difficulty putting them back on!

All of my comments are pretty minor. These are superb, well built & stylish 'phones with superior sound quality to any Bose/Sennheisers that i have tried. The sound is definitely more raw and doesn't sound like it is being played through a cheap equalizer as on some similarly priced Sennheiser models that i have tried.

I would only recommend not buying these if you commute a lot or want to wear them in close proximity of other people as the sound leakage is pretty bad.

[COLOR="Red"]*********A NOTE ON THE LIFETIME WARRANTY********

Koss state that it costs $6 USD to cover return postage on any warranty claims. When i contacted Koss US they put me through to their UK department (Hama) who told me that in the UK the cost to cover return shipping is £10. Add this to the £3/£4 it would cost to return them and the warranty is barely worth it in my opinion. Just in case anyone hopes to wreck these and claim infinitely on the warranty (which you can do, but at cost).

Happy to answer any questions on these.

It's retro

Saw these posted at this price before but it's still a hot price they sound great.

My Px100s are a bit more conventional looking though and are still going strong after a few years.

 Rip-off Britain strikes again.

Just sent mine back, great sound quality but they broke after a week

looks like shock giving brain machine of some kind....ugly in short
not voting hot or cold as may be good on sound quality

Have to agree with other people here... probably the best sounding headphones I've ever had, however, they broke after just a few weeks unfortunately. Replaced with Seinheissers, they broke... got some more Seinheissers, broke again! Then opted for Sony, absolute crap.

Finally, got some Grados and whereas they're not the most bassy headphones I've had, they've lasted longer than all the above put together. So imo... go for Grados everytime.

I guess so, i mean theres no way that it can cost £10 to ship some headphones, even with any amount of packaging.

Get some Sennheiser PX200s instead. Great sound, durable (i've had 2 pairs in 4 years, used daily), and they are closed so don't let much sound in and don't annoy the hell on of anyone around you!

Worth the extra price.

Oh, and don't buy headphones from marketplace/ebay, there are loads of rubbish fakes around!

How did the Senns break?

Mine are often thrown in my laptop bag or rucksack not even in the case, abused like mad and they are perfect after I think 4 years.

Try these if you want closed back headphones that won't annoy fellow commuters;

hotukdeals.com/ite…-3/

Much bulkier than some 'portable' headphones but worth it for the sound quality I reckon! I would love to try these Koss phones but I mainly use my headphones outdoors and on buses...

Very weird, I love my drum and bass and my PX200s deliver loads of bass. Looking at reviews I guess how your ear is shaped makes a big difference!

Has anyone tried the new sennheisers, either the HD218 or HD228?

had these 2 yrs,build quality issues,none,1st class,sound quality,1st class,a warm sound that only far more expensive 'phones could match,yeah i look a bit of a dick in them & i have lost a few hairs in the stupid metal band,but i would'nt have anything else,if they break,so what,BTW i have senn's as well,but they don't even come close,buy them,let them bed in,& enjoy

Bought a pair of these after the last time they got mentioned on the forum.

Have to say, whilst they look a bit unusual the sound on these are cracking, and they are a LOT more comfortable to wear for extended periods than the in-ear designs.

Heat and rep to the OP from me.

I would echo Rubisco's point, brilliant sound quality for the price but not the best build quality. I have taken advantage of the warranty after 14 months and after a bit of discussion with Koss I ended up getting a refund of costs. One of the cables had broken free. Got new pair back that I take more care with now. I use them when walking the dog most days and they are still going strong.

Would recommend them.

I have the px100 sennheisers and the portapros and I have to say that I always use the portapros. So comfy and better sound quality. I have used the warranty after I sat on them after about 2 years ownership and they repaired them as good as new (they didn't even ask how they broke) . As for looks...I haven't even considered the vanity aspect!

brilliant headphones. owe this for 2+ years

The wire at the jack end on my Grado SR60s became loose after very little use. I had had them a while but they've always just sat in a drawer (cable loose, not tied tight or wound round the headphones) and hardly see any use. Perhaps 5 or 6 times in over a year.

They don't have a UK support site and when I contacted the US one to ask where to go I got no reply. They were out of their 1 year warranty. Big disappointment. Not sure whether just to take them to a local shop that does custom audio cables or not?

Amazons customer service is the best there is and you could probably get Amazon to deal with the lifetime warranty because they where sold by them. I had a DKNY watch that had a 2 year warranty with DKNY which broke after 14 months i approached Amazon and told them there was a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and without any aggro they refunded me the money and said to post the watch to them when i had time and they would then pay me the postage back which they did so money credited to my card a week before i returned the item and its been pretty much the same every time I've returned something.

Man they are ugly headphones they look like the 99p earphones i had in the 80s with my sony walkman.

Banned

These are brilliant for the office and wearing with glasses!

These are really good headphones, very good for the office. They do seem a little flimsy, but I've had them nearly a year and they are pretty much pristine (and I'm pa little heavy handed an prone to breaking things!)

Sound quality is good and they are really easy to wear with your specs, seems like they are designed to accommodate the arms of glasses with gaps between the comfortable pads

Bad points - folded up they don't even come close to fitting in the protective fabric case, the neck of which is just too small. And as Andysan pointed out they can snap back to the default position a little (taking a few of my head hairs with them!) But far from the end of the world.

Overall they are comfy, stylish (I think!) and practical (they fold away easily).

I've tried alot of headphones in my time, including grado SR125's. Portapros are my fav phones ever, the sound quality is just to my taste. I can't believe the excellent bass and treble you get from a £18 pair of phones. Bargain of the century!

And personally i love the look of them.

Might buy another pair just incase mines break someday, i use them all the time.

Thanks to the OP.

Missed these the last time they came around.

Heat Added.

Just to add my 10p's worth. I agree with the other comments regarding excellent sound quality yet awful headband - you'd think after 20+ years they'd have this fixed. I ended up setting it correct for me and taping it up with black 'electrical' tape

Although PX100s are not as good as these for sound quality (but not miles away) I find PX100s more comfortable and so they are the ones I take with me when out and about.

(Voted hot - these are regularly this price but regular as in only a few times per year!)

I have a pair for 3 years now, really good sound, very lightweight and you can fold it. Worked fine until recently cable got broken, which is understandable after this time. tricky if you have long hair, as they can get stuck in metal hooks. I cut my hair 2 months after buying headphones. They can be also loud outside, but for this price it would be very hard to get anything that sounds even close.
